There is a discussion on whether The Lumber Guy
should go to the BC Sprint (a race on which he earned an
automatic spot due to his Vosburg [G-1] victory) or should he go
for the BC Mile.
In my opinion he should stay there in the Sprint because he is
sufficiently strong (or should I say barely strong) to close just in time
after both, a scintillating pace or a fair one. But I really don't like his chances going the Mile because if one observes the Vosburg finish, Caixa Electronica really came flying on him but fell short out of distance for about 20 meters. If The Lumber Guy opts for the Mile I don't think he has the racing style to keep himself within speedy contention and then keep the necessary stamina to close-in. There is a saying that "a swallow-bird doesn't makes Summer" and that's true regarding The Lumber Guy, a horse I kept an eye during Spring when he fell short to the K. Derby field. Being realistic, right now he is not a favorite for the Sprint, even with his Vosburgh victory. Oh yes many of us were pleasantly surprised he won!
Therefore, if the circumstances are smiling in favor of his Sprint participation why derail those circumstances. Aspiring to compete in the Mile seems far less auspicious for him.

it is my understanding that Santa Anita shown a frontrunner bias thus far, in which case it is hard to support any closing sprinter...The Lumber Guy seems to come from off the pace but if he cannot stay on the pace he may not be able to win at SA.
A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.
