Racing Under Breeder/Owner Name vs A Stable Name

Postby Patuxet » Fri Nov 23, 2012 12:27 pm

I have a pair of horses racing under my name as owner and breeder. I also have a Stable LLC name,

What is the proper procedure to follow in order for the horses to begin to race under the LLC name?

Thanks.

You would execute the horses' papers into the LLC name and inform the racing secretary that is how you would like the horses to run. In some states, they will use the LLC name in the program, but your name will still appear, sometimes in parenthesis.

Same procedure as you would use if your LLC purchased the horses from another owner.

in addition to transferring the Jockey Club papers to the LLC , a one dollar and other valuable consideration sales agreement between you and your LLC might be appropriate and help the track officials

Some tracks provide generic sales agreement forms
