not talking about this day just gulfstream in general. that track is the freaking death of me
Hi bdw,
Then stay away from opening day, this will be a tough card to handicap and the weather may add additional angst:>) They're coming from far and near for the Claiming Crown. In the first race we even have Her Majesty the Queen bringing one here from her homeland to race on Lasix for the 2nd time in America. The mile should be just about right for her. I like a challenge...so I'll be there with bells on:>) TJ

yeah i'm out on the opening day card.
from what i see so far at gulfstream, the new extedned days is nothing but calder-lite and id on't really care for calder all that much. I like how tampa bay caps it at 10 in a gate and also the turf is not a speedway like gulfstream is so I tend to play more turf races at tampa bay than i do gulfstream.
I don't really get people that play just hge claiming turf races at gulfstream. I mean i can understated if you like betting on nice horses and watching high class racing, but tampa bay does turf claiming races better than gulfstraem does, at a lower takeout at that.

Hi bdw,
We all have our race preference types/venues and they are all available to us no matter where we sit down to watch and gamble on them...live at the track, at our computer, in front of our TV etc. Being from NY and South Florida the two premier racing venues in these area's are Saratoga and Gulfstream Park. Currently, the best owner's, trainers and almost all the best horses are training here between Palm Meadows, Payson Park and Gulfstream Park, this usually gives an indication as to the best racing venues. GP has a responsibility to accomodate these big outfits, as well as the year round supporters of the game who are stabled at Calder. When you try to take more and more racing dates away from the core track (Calder) it's only fair to allow them a certain amount of available racing spots in the condition book. This is why you see some of the cards looking like a Calder lite card, as you said:>) You know Frank Stronach owns Santa Anita...this year as well as next year's site for the prestigious Breeder's Cup races. He has a lot of clout with the power's that be, you can see this by the way he was able to get the Claiming Crown event moved here for GP's opening day. What you might not be aware of is "why" the GP meet keeps opening earlier and earlier each season? The answer is...Frank Stronach is making a power play to get the BC races moved to Gulfstream Park within the next few years. At the end of this Gulfstream Park meet, Stronach will begin remodeling Gulfstream Park (yet again:>), so it can handle the larger crowds expected to be here for a BC event. Among the renovations will be a new grandstand capable of holding 60,000 people. Stronach is trying to keep the BC races between his tracks on the West and East Coast. That man usually gets what he wants. TJ
