walk of fame at Saratoga

Postby stancaris » Wed Mar 27, 2013 9:01 am

They listed the 30 greatest horses to race at Saratoga over the last 150 years but they left out one that could be considered one of the greatest speed champions of all time, the Tartan streak of lightning --Dr. Fager. Dr. Fager is always in the top 10 of all time great thoroughbreds so how did they leave him out of Saratogas walkway of fame when he was better than several of the others they voted in??? He did win the Whitney at Saratoga by 8 lengths under 132 pounds. Omitting Dr. Fager from this walkway is a definite injustice.

Hi Stan,
This list of 30 is the inaugural class of inductee's to the Saratoga Walk of Fame. They will be adding more to the "Walk"....but I agree, Dr. Fager should have been in the first list. TJ

Speaking of Dr. Fager, in this article Steve Haskins points out that the majority of this year's top Derby candidates carry the John Nerud influence in their pedigree, mainly through the descendants of Fappiano and Dr. Fager and continuing through Unbridled and Quiet American.

What's ironic is that Nerud never believed in the Derby and ran only one horse in the race – Gallant Man in 1957.

What's equally ironic is how many will be ruined by the Derby trail of tears when they could have fullfilled their destinies as older horses with more patience .

....and the Derby gods responded as harshly as they could when he did....
