speed figures compared

Postby Mac » Tue May 07, 2013 5:01 pm

Hi all, I'm part-owner in a horse that ran in a msw this past weekend. Horse has a crazy trip, tracking in second on the rail, shuffled back to almost dead last, swings out 5 wide going home and gets back up for second. Here's my question. Which of the speed figures (beyer, ragozin, brisnet) try to assess a horse's trip more accurately, or take into account those factors? I've heard ragozins are more detailed but not sure...thanks, clarity would be welcome.

Hi Mac,
Rogozin's sheets are by far the best measurement of a horses performance. Some of the factors incorporated by the Rogozin sheets are wide trips, troubled or ground saving trips, headwinds, tailwinds, track construction such as downhill areas like the SA downhill turf course, track conditions, weight, etc. The sheet numbers range from zero to the forties. The lower the figure the better the race. They are expensive, a single set of sheets for one track will cost $35. TJ

thanks t.j. That is helpful. I guess the fact that they are so expensive means they are doing a lot more research....
