A beautiful story ocurred this past Sunday

Highly unfavored ACHTUNG wins the most important Thoroughbred stakes race of Spain (“El Gran Premio de Madrid”), raced at Hipodromo La Zarzuela.

His trainer Roberto López, 42, always wanted to win this race and couldn’t achieve it until this past Sunday. Unfortunately, López died the night before, just hours before the event was run at a Madrid hospital after a long illness.

Here is the newspaper report:

Don’t miss the interview with the winning jockey and the emotional reaction of him and the public at the racetrack. The text of the article can be translated online into English.

Thanks for the link Jorge, indeed it's powerful stuff, you really could not make it up. Racing can often reduce winners to mere mortals for a moment in time.

Here are some visual emotional highlights for the benefice of non-Spanish speaking readers:

On the video, I recommend going to "frame" 7:00 for the winners circle
presentation and public applause .

Then go to "frame" 8:40 for the emotional interview with the winning jockey, especially "frame" 9:16.

Finally, go to "frame" 9:29 where the lady doing the interview
asks for assistance from a colleague because of the emotional
burden she is feeling right there, which she expresses it.
