Stroll

Postby Mac » Sat Jul 27, 2013 11:48 am

Anyone noticing how these Stroll 2 year olds are running? Supposedly this is his first crop from reasonably good mares since they brought him back from Italy. They are on fire. There was one firster who just ran second at Saratoga only because he got trapped on the rail but wow was he closing and got beat only a head. Out of 7 starters, 3 won their msw outs, 2 others were second and won their next outs, 1 stakes winner, 1 stakes placed.

I hadn't noticed yet Mac, thanks for pointing it out. I really had hoped that he would live up to his earlier promise when he came back from Italy. I'll be paying closer attention to his offspring in the future.

Geowarrior you are not alone, he's definitely still under the radar, but possibly this is not a fluke and Claiborne made a quality bet. Currently earnings of $15k per start is as good as it gets. Correction of my earlier post, 1 sw and 2 sks placed out of 7 starters. Probably too early to tell that this is not a fluke, but interesting.

True, Mac, but his earlier stats prior to going to Italy were pretty good also, so I'm thinking not a fluke. Claiborne didn't know he was going to do so well when they sent him to Italy, but must have been quite happy that they were going to get him back.

Geowarrior, at least you were aware he was getting good horses before he left for Italy. I wasn't following the stallion until saw and bought a $7000 short yearling at an auction by Stroll. She's two and working pretty nice although way too early to tell what we have. She has high knee action but is still working good times and gallops out great. Hopefully Stroll is for real or I else I'll find I should have kept my hand down:)

Mac, that's very exciting. High knee action should be fine for a good turf horse which is what I'd expect from a Stroll offspring. All horse buys are a gamble, but I'd say you have a good chance of a run for your money. Keep us posted!

thanks geowarrior. If this thread goes silent we'll know I have the one Stroll 2 year old who can't run. But since we both hope otherwise you'll be notified :)

We do hope otherwise, but even if your horse can't run, it will still have been an excellent bet.

thanks for heads-up Patuxet. These Strolls will be fun to watch in the event he turns out to be a solid sire.

I love Stroll! I love his physical and my company has evaluated several of his offspring and they look very promising. I think he is going to be quite a strong sire.

Cherry, I'd be interested to hear more on his physical. When he was standing in the US during his earlier stint, a poster on this board expressed disappointment in his physical traits.

I really liked his large hip and shoulder and compact body. For lack of better words, all the parts match. He has a smooth overall balance. His head is not great if I remember correctly and he might have been a little over in the knees (?). I looked at him 2yrs ago in the pouring rain. I think given my age and because I sound young on the phone they did not think I was a serious breeder. The receptionist was nothing short of rude. When I called she kept telling me that they weren't open for public tours, they were only open for breeding tours during the Keeneland sale and clearly thought I was lying when I told her that I was indeed a breeder. When I arrived exactly on time, she again told me that they were not open for public tours. When I told her I had an appointment she rolled her eyes and told me to go stand outside in the rain and wait for the groom. He came up about 15mins later and asked me why I was standing outside soaking wet and said that she had only just told him I was waiting and that they didn't know there were any appointments that day. They had turned all the stallions out so they were covered in mud and couldn't even catch Blame. The groom was very nice and did his best and apologized for the mix up (even though I had scheduled my appointment 2 days prior and confirmed it that day). I was there mostly to see Pulpit and Arch but he really wanted to pull Stroll out as well (I think they were trying to get him back in front of people). After looking at him and seeing Pulpit's lagging LF rate I almost decided to go with Stroll. I got a little scared dropping my mare's stud fee range that much though and went with a mid five's at a different farm since I was so put off with my Claiborne experience. I may go with him this coming year but will go look at him again, hopefully in a better setting and see if I missed something awful in all the mud. I figure he must really appeal to me though if I still feel warm and fuzzy about him after all that! The mare that I keep thinking of sending him is a huge mare, very straight and correct with Pulpit stakes winners under every dam. Given her conformation I can forgive some on the stallion's side and her body could use some tightening down and some balance through the hip.

be interesting to see if these first eight runners are indicative of what may be coming from this sire. Nice!
