Pletcher 2-year-olds

Postby Cree » Mon Sep 02, 2013 2:54 pm

Anyone know how many Pletcher-trained 2-year-olds broke their maidens at the Saratoga meet this year?

I've got 13. Don't know if I am even close.

Hi Cree,
He won 16 races for two year olds at the Spa. Fourteen were maiden breakers (one of those was a mdn, claimer, and the horse was claimed by Contessa). Corfu and Bashert both broke their maidens at Saratoga and came back respectively to win The Saratoga Special and The With Anticipation on the turf. He still has a lot more two year old maidens to break at Belmont....many still unraced. TJ

Thanks TJ.

I remember I read that he had said his fillies were ahead of the colts this year.

I'd say the most talked about was his colt Havana, and the new purchase Due Diligence.

Hi Cree,
I understand Due Diligence is headed to the Summer Stakes at Woodbine over the turf on Sept. 14th. This last week has, albeit the track was off, brought out some very nice 2YO's. Aside from Honor Code who is in a league by himself, of note was a couple 2YO colts running back for the 2nd time. Of the two, Pletcher's colt was most impressive, named Sound of Freedom (who may be his best colt so far) and Albertrani's, Tiznowforamerica. A bit earlier in the meet, both these horses were defeated by an interesting prospect for Anthony Dutrow named In Trouble. It's been a great meet at the Spa and I'm looking forward to Belmont Park and the Champagne Stakes October 5th.....I think it will be one of the best in years. TJ
