Renpher stable in PA charges $55 a day which is way too much for that operation.

Karen,

If you like losing money then this is the stable for you.

If you don't like losing money then run as far away as you can from this stable.

You might contact Laurierace - she knows the lay of the land in the Midatlantic.

Now I am going out on an uncomfortable limb here and if people get offended or if I start something that I am not supposed to do, please stop me.
Because I am not from the East Coast:
1. Which trainers do people feel are 70 plus category and why?
2. Which trainers do you believe should be better with sprinters Vs Stayers?

It's to early to tell what my filly is going to be but sometimes if you listen to what people have experienced or seen handicapping wise or have had a horse that was a sprinter or stayer you ( I ) can avoid pitfalls.

if I ever get back into racing, I would consider a smaller trainer at Fair Hill where they will get solid care in a healthy environment. You can always 'upgrade' if need be but solid horsemanship is available in a lot of places in the early stages. There are a lot of top trainers/outfits there.

Why don't you take the approach I did and look at the tracks you are interested in running at, go through the leading trainers for the meet and then looking at their entries/results. Not only will you see the types of races their horses are running in, but also the distances. If they are a trainer who claims a lot you can learn quite a lot just by checking the bloodlines of those horses.

Keep in mind that while Fair Hill might be a bit less expensive than stabling a horse on the grounds, you will incur additional expenses when the horse has to get to/from the track. I believe the shipping rate is somewhere around .53 a mile so while you could potentially save in the day rate you would pick up the shipping costs and whatever the fees are for the stall you'd be in for the day.

The other thing is that you should find out whether the filly is going to be ready for breaking/training. Have you had a set of digitals done? If she's going to be two this is the right time to find out whether she's got anything going on. I'd have her broken regardless but you would want to find out if there are any spurs or ocd's.
