Derby scratch time is 9AM Friday and the status of Pablo Del Monte is still undecided. Decision to run must come shortly. If he doesn't run and leaves a field of 19 for the Derby, the post positions will be changed yet again. TJ

Pablo Del Monte has been officially scratched from the Kentucky Derby. Trainer Wesley Ward, who is one of 4 partners each with 25% ownership, wanted to run but was overruled by the majority. Under these latest conditions where we have 19 Derby starters...the post positions will be changed again because the horse who originally drew post 20 must remain in that post. The inside stall in the gate will be left open, and the 19 runners will break from posts 2 through 20. So now those who drew posts 1-10 will be moved out one post position. Had Pablo run, posts 12-20 would have been moved in one post position....a little confusing, but fair under the conditions. Actually helps those closest to the rail as they won't be as close to the inside and the rail as they break away from the gate. TJ

Fiscal sidebar: Because both Pablo Del Monte’s connections and Hoppertunity’s connections paid the $25,000 entry fee, the Kentucky Derby purse will remain at $2,202,800.

According to published reports Pablo Del Monte’s connections will point the colt towards the GI Preakness S. aka "The Consolation Derby".
