Hi Dan,
Wind-sucking or pneumovagina, which is the technical term for it, does not compromise racing performance. When air enters the vagina it can bring in dirt, bacteria, and other debris. It is this contamination which can lead to inflammation of the vagina. A minor surgical procedure called Caslick is performed on those race horses who wind-suck to prevent possible genital infection in race fillies, mares and broodmares. TJ

Caslick surgery is routinely done on racing fillies as there is a consensus of opinion that sucking air does compromise performance.
Re: Vaginal Wind Sucking
Hi Wilf,
I've never encountered racing performance being effected due to vaginal wind-sucking, unless of course a vaginal infection set in prior to the caslick procedure. Though I wouldn't dispute those who believe it could effect performance. Estrus has been the only reason I've seen that would effect performance in certain fillies. In those cases Regumate would be advised to ward off "horsing", in certain fillies/mares, whose racing performance is adversely effected during Estrus. TJ
