19 out of 20? Anybody have particulars on his current condition, etc? High Fly seems to have had had a reversal since his early career.

Hi Zia,
Never put too much stock in works. This has often been discussed on the forum. Unless you know the intent of the trainer, making judgements based on the workout times is like chasing your tail.
If a trainer tells you that he'd like to see his charge work sub :50 for 4f and the horse works in :52, that's a poor work.
Last week I saw a mare entered in a stakes race who is trained by my friend. The mare hadn't seen the track in weeks, training only on an Equisizer so I assumed that there was a good chance that she would be scratched. She won. The favorite had worked 4f/:46.3b a week before the race.
Works are also notoriously inaccurate.
Regards,
Pete

Works are used to accomplish lots of different things. In my experience, horses are very seldom sent out to the track in the morning and intended to cover the distance as fast as they can. You can't tell from the reports whether a work was good or bad...it all depends on what the trainer had in mind at the time.

Let the trainers train those TB, as they are pros and were just fans with our opinions.
Some TB are lazy workers in the AM and run the opposite in the races.
If you want to know about your favorite TB how he went in the AM, just ask the excerise boy when you see him, I know its not that easy, as I am spoiled because I work on the backstretch and all the grooms and excersise riders are all my friends, so I have the info right from the TB mouth.

FYI Per NY Daily News:
Zito also had Florida Derby winner High Fly out yesterday morning, the 3-year-old going the same distance [as Bellamy Road] in :53.16. High Fly hasn't been out since finishing 10th in the May 21 Preakness Stakes, but Zito mentioned the Sept. 11 Jerome Handicap as a possibility for High Fly's return.
