Afleet Alex Sidelined by Condylar Fracture

Postby Karie » Thu Jul 28, 2005 9:24 am

Trainer Tim Ritchey noticed something was not quite right with Afleet Alex's left front ankle after training hours at Belmont Park Tuesday morning. X-rays were taken that showed a shadow. Ritchey immediately sent Afleet Alex to the NJEC in Clarksburg, N.J. There it was determined he had a condylar fracture

The 3-year-old son of Northern Afleet is now out of consideration for the upcoming Haskell Invitational Handicap (gr. I) and Travers Stakes (gr. I) but could return for a fall campaign.

Poor AA but I guess we can put him in with Smarty Jones. I doubt if he comes back this year. The 3YO races are wide open for the rest of the year.

I doubt if he will ever be back.
What a shame.

Trainer Tim Ritchey saw AA was walking off in his leg and immediately took AA to be X-Rayed. Their was a dark spot on the picture and AA was vanned to the NJ equine hospital and was under for 30 minutes as the vet inserted a screw at the bottom of the cannon bone to close the fracture.

It was successful and AA is back in his stall resting. How long will AA be idle will depend on how long it takes the fracture to heal.

Thank You TR for spotting the injury and to the vet for patching AA up.
AA will be back to fight for another day, Thanks Lord for watching over AA.

Alex is a strong and healthy boy . . . . .and will be back for BC Day if not sooner.

I think Alex may have a few surprises left in him yet.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Politicians will tell the truth and cats and dogs will love each other before AA ever races again. In plain English, Next stop for Alex is the breeding shed.

I asked trainer Mary Knight if she ever had a TB with the same injury AA had.

Mary said she had a TB with the same type of injury and it came back to the races the same as before the injury.

Mary said she dosent think AA will be ready for the BC as that would put AA on a rush schedule to make the same.
