ROMAN RULER VICTORIOUS IN HASKELL

Postby louis finochio » Mon Aug 08, 2005 6:16 am

Congrats to RR and his connections for his victory in the Haskell.

For those who gave up on RR after he was beaten in those earlier distance races, as said he wont go the distances and was just a sprinter, you'll have to eat crow.

RR recent victories are now making Declan's Moon look very positive in the 3yr. old division.

DM banged his knee in his stall 2 weeks ago and will be set back some in his return to the races.

It makes Declan's Moons wins look better, but it does NOTHING to enhance Declan's or RR's chances of winning the 3yoOY title. Afleet Alex is the 3yo Champion. Short of a 3yo going on a tear and beating up on older horses MORE THAN ONCE (which means a BC Classic win WON'T do it) NO ONE will take the title from Alex.

Congrats to RR and Fog City Stable.

However, I would not sound the alarm on RR being a top flight 3YO. He beat a suspect group of grade 3 and high level allowance horses. Sun King and Park Ave Ball are not at the top of the 3YO racing scene. He beat Sun King by 1.25 lengths. Sun King was never close to Afleet Alex or Giacomo.

RR is a step below AA, Giacomo & Lost in the Fog.

I would put him on the level of Flower Alley, Bellamy Road and maybe ahead of Scrappy T....

RR would never have beat AA in the 2nd and 3rd jewels of the TC.

But RR has proven he can win at a distance of ground even if he beat 2nd flight 3yr. olds.

If AA comes back RR will get to play 2nd fiddle, as AA is HOY hands down.
