News on Lava Man or Musique Toujours?

Postby Swaps1955 » Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:43 am

Anybody have news on Lava Man or Musique Toujour? This morning's L.A. Times said Lava Man had a leg injury and his future was in doubt and Musique Toujour had an undisclosed injury. Sort of vague and I hope that things are more positive than that for those two wonderful campaigners. Tracks are too secretive about what happens and (when I've written them to get information) often give incomplete information like "He was vanned off but looked ok."

Blood-Horse is reporting Lava Man may have suffered from heat exhaustion (sounds very speculative):
Lava Man, the 3-2 favorite in the field of 11 who led into deep stretch after setting a hot pace for the 10-furlong distance under Patrick Valenzuela, was pulled up past the finish line and was vanned off.

``He just fell apart the last 20 yards,'' said Valenzuela, who jumped off after they crossed the wire. ``He lost his air. I was concerned about him. I didn't know if he was hurt or not, but I didn't want any weight on him if he was.''

Trainer Doug O'Neill said Lava Man walked on and off the van fine. ``Maybe he had a little heat exhaustion,'' he said.

I haven't seen or heard anything about Musique Toujours.

I agree with your comment about how hard it is get information about the condition of injured horses. It's very frustrating for fans. :x

I was surprised to read in this morning's LA Times that he had been vanned off with an injury to his right fore, because I walked by him being bathed after the race yesterday. He was standing fine, looked good, and it looked as though he might have been dehydrated.

I just did a google search and found a post-race report from this morning that makes it seem as though that's all it was:

That certainly fits with what I saw yesterday.

Thanks SO much, Buckhunter. I really appreciate your firsthand view of Lava Man and the article from Thoroughbred Times. Looks like we may see Lava Man back again, but probably not Musique Toujours. Thanks for your time and effort!

The tracks don't know nor do they care to know the condition of horses. They are too busy watching the cash flow.....horses are merely a means to their end.

I was at John Sadlers barn this morning and I was told Music Tourjours had a tendon injury. He will be out until they make a decision to race or retire him.
