hi guys
I was a bit surprised that the morning line favorite for the Travers is Bellamy Road at 2-1.
In Post Position order the morning line odds are...
1...Bellamy Road...2-1
2...Andromeda's Hero...12-1
3...Chekhov...10-1
4...Roman Ruler...5-2
5...Don't Get Mad...10-1
6...Reverberate...8-1
7...Flower Alley...3-1
Thoughts?
For what it's worth...Lost In The Fog is the 1-5 ML favorite in the King's Bishop.
Respectfully
Bellamy Road...the Travers 2-1 morning line favorite...hmmm

I'd give Don't Get Mad a better shot than 10-1...when he's on fire he's on FIRE (I'm thinking NOS of The Fast and the Furious fame...hit the little button and he blows away). Of course, he's mostly at fire on the Churchill track, but I'd like nothing more than to see him "hit the button" rounding the final turn of the Travers
hi guys
StrawberryFelidos...seems like Don't Get Mad hasn't convinced the New York contingent that he's worthy of shorter odds. He'll have his chance tomorrow. Regardless...I agree 10-1 sounds a bit (but just a bit) long to me too...it'll be interesting to see what the betting-public thinks of him.
As far as I'm concerned...he certainly gives the impression that he's a potential big-time horse. It'll be interesting to see how he handles it all. Maybe (as you're hoping) he'll "hit that button rounding the final turn of the Travers."
Reespectfully

FOS,
I agree, Mr. Mad has seemed like a potential "big boy" to me ever since he won the Derby Trial, that winning move was damn impressive. His KY Derby 4th place was a nice effort, and when he won the Northern Dancer I thought I was onto something hot. Then there was the California flop- I'm still confused 'bout that one
and his poor Santa Anita showings. We'll see. But I wanna see somethin' big, dammit!
Bellamy doesn't need to prove anything. We know he has the goods (wood, wood) it's just a question if he can, or will, use them again. That, too, would be very nice to see.
Flower Alley, I like his determination. When he last ran against Roman Ruler, the thing that impressed me most was how tenacious he was in fighting with the winner. For some reason that "heart" impressed upon me more than RR's win. Besides, I still remember him flying on the outside with Wild Desert (!) pinned to his side as he won the the Lane's End. That was just cool to watch!
Roman Ruler, he's talented. When he's good he's good, but if he's sore it's ugly. If he's all systems go tomorrow it will be interesting to see how he does against these guys. For some reason I've never embraced this horse but I should really think about it!
As for the rest, bla. Checkhov, bla, Andromeda, bla. Oh poopie, who am I missing? I forgot one. Now that one is going to win just to spite me!

hi StrawberryFelidos...hi guys
Flower Alley ran a VERY big race to annex the Travers...but post-time favorite Roman Ruler (although he finished third) really raised some questions (as far as I'm concerned anyway)...hmmm? Baffert's comments (coming up to the Travers) prepared me for something special from RR...but (the way I see it anyway) he ran an uninspiring third and didn't (or couldn't) respond when in a position to challenge and asked (by jockey Jerry Bailey) for something more.
For what it's worth, I felt that Bellamy Road (who tried to regain the lead from Flower Alley down the stretch) made a valiant effort although he came up short. I suggest BR ran extremely well off a 112 day layoff...to finish a very game second...and might have actually stolen the Travers had Flower Alley's rider (Velazquez) misjudged the race as it unfolded. Congrats to Flower Alley and jockey Velazquez (and trainer Pletcher) for an impressive team effort.
I sense the best-is-yet-to-come as far as Bellamy Road is concerned. If he comes out of the Travers okay...I expect BR might be sitting on a HUGE performance.

I thought Bellamy Road ran a very credible race given the layoff staying very game despite getting leg weary and agree with FOS that if Flower Alley had not had such an astute rider on his back Bellamy Road might have stolen it. Roman Ruler to me looked to kind of drop out of the bit going into the turn. He came on a bit after that, but just kind of flattened out down the stretch, and while I'm not a fan of FUPEG I must admit Roman Ruler is a nice looking individual. It would be nice to see these three progress into the handicap ranks.

Ditto that. Luckily, with him being a Concerto, I don't expect him to be a major must have 4yo stallion so we should get to see him next year in all those nice NY handicaps (Wish I could get a future book on him in the Brooklyn next year).
I wanted him to win yesterday and he gave a hell of an effort, but I think the mistake was in him running that race. It STILL bothers me (and I know one of the TVG talking heads said the same thing) that they had been training him as if they were running in the King's Bishop only to change their mind 3 days before the race ... you have to think that left him just a bit short. You just don't train for 7f the way you train for 10f.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
That Flowah has Powah!
And Don't Get Mad left his NOS at home
The button only fires at Churchill!
I still have the same opinion of Roman Ruler- nice horse, got talent, still doesn't steal my heart
Bellamy Road may not be the next superhorse but he is, as always, credible.
And the rest- bla!
(now watch- those last three will all grow up to be superstars and spite me! Just like whats-his-name did in the race today...)
