Premature Eclipse Poll Time!

Postby Heidilady » Tue Sep 13, 2005 11:19 pm

I know it's only (*snort* allowed) mid-September but it's time for cohesive speculation on Eclipse horses...to be revised post-BC, end of season should Alex race after, etc.

For HOY I argue it's a definitive mess of a situation....most people go 'oh Saint Liam' but opting for top older male every year when a 3yo might deserve it more is just silly. Rock Hard Ten's very "what have you done for me lately" and Ghostzapper non-existent. I guess a tentative category might go...

HOY: Saint Liam, Afleet Alex, Lost in the Fog.

For 3yo it's LITF vs AA....should LITF stay undefeated and take the Sprint over older horses with a no-show for AA in further 2005 racing, you gotta go with Lost in the Fog, I'm sorry. Now should those variables move around, it complicates things. LITF and AA are the 2 fan faves for the year and either is deserving. Tentative category--hmm..

3yo colt: Afleet Alex, Lost in the Fog, Flower Alley

Those are the two I care to tackle at the moment...gotta give more thought to narrow other categories to 3 or find additional candidates in others but figured I'd toss up the obvious. Is it unrealistic to expect Lost in the Fog to get Sprinter, 3yo colt, AND HOY? Can't do sprinter and HOY and leave off 3yo colt and can't, IMHO do sprinter and 3yo without HOY although that's more likely. It still means shutting out Alex which they won't wanna do. I mean what are the odds? I feel he's good enough but he's gotta put it out there two more times to do it and will it work out with the racing gods, who knows? Probably will end up champ. sprinter.

PS. are Commentator and Pomeroy in a position to be in the sprinter category with LITF? Commentator maybe. Pomeroy hasn't gotten a huge sprint season behind him to put on a resume like 'Fog.' I think Forest Danger was sooooo overrated I'd be really honked if they actually gave him a slot.

This is weird. I could SWEAR this post had several responses before.

Anyhow....AFLEET ALEX for HORSE OF THE YEAR!

And if he can manage to enter and win the BC Classic....make my vote: HORSE OF THE CENTURY! :)

There was ... sorta of.

The thread is under Ghostzapper's stud fee thread.

Basically, you're dreaming if you think LITF is going to get 3yo, Sprinter and HOY.

He's not HOY material and there is no way he is going to get 3yo over Alex, not even if he runs the board. He'll be the unanimous winner for Sprinter but they will NOT give him the 3yo title as well. Too many voters feel you shouldn't get an age and a specialty title ... especially since doing so would (ill)logically dictate that you get HOY by default (two eclipses to someone else's one)

AA all the way---hard to have this discussion until after the BC races are won, but based upon what I believe will happen in the classic----Afleet Alex will win it hands down.
best regards Brendan

I honestly think for Afleet Alex to win Horse of the Year he has to win against older GR I competition given there are some live older horses this year in Saint Liam, Rock Hard Ten, and Borrego (a longshot I know).
