Zarb's Dahar
Anybody catching on to Zarb's Dahar in Louisiana? Foxwood Plantation seems to have a really nice horse there. Mr. Hodges has brought him along really nice as well. I know he is way below the radar as far as sprinters go, but he is a nice horse with a big motor in him.

This was in the Shreveport newspaper a few weeks ago.
Trainer James "Sweet" Hodges seemed beside himself with joy after his stable star, Zarb's Dahar, demolished seven rivals in Saturday's Cajun Stakes.
"You have to be a trainer to understand just how special this horse really is," the affable Hodges said just moments after his colt galloped to a hand-ridden four-length win as the overwhelming favorite. "The public loves this horse but they probably don't realize this kind doesn't come along very often."
Zarb's Dahar's victory alone would have made Hodges' Louisiana Breeders' Festival day a memorable one. But as if to add a little spice to the stew, Hodges then went out and saddled Miriam L. to a win in the Louisiana Breeders' Oaks a few races later, making him the only trainer to visit the winner's circle twice on Saturday.

New article in DRF yesterday. He is something if you have not heard of him yet.

Zarb's Dahar gets 11th straight win
By MARY RAMPELLINI
BOSSIER CITY, La. - In what may be the best effort of his career, Zarb's Dahar won his 11th consecutive race over the Louisiana Downs main track on Saturday when he gutted out a neck win in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Sprint.
The race was one of 10 stakes worth $1 million on the 15th annual Louisiana Champions Day card, which is being run as part of the Fair Grounds meet at Louisiana Downs in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Zarb's Dahar ($2.40) was the 1-5 favorite in the Sprint, and he broke well from the rail and sat just off of leader Inalako, who set a pressured pace of 22.52 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.94 for the half-mile. Zarb's Dahar moved to the lead past the quarter-pole and seemed poised to pull away, but had to fight late with Zarb's Luck. On the wire, Zarb's Dahar prevailed under regular rider Gerard Melancon, covering the distance in 1:10.90.
For the race, Zarb's Dahar wore a bar shoe to protect a quarter crack in his left hind foot. He first wore the bar shoe last month, when he won the $75,000 Thanksgiving Handicap.
"I think this is one of his best races," said James Hodges, who trains Zarb's Dahar. "Zarb's Luck, who has always been a nice little horse, hooked him down the lane, and this track's heavy, and this horse bore down and beat him.
"When he goes to the front and wins by five, he's doing that easy, but he had to work today, so I think this is one of the best races he's ever run. Maybe the best."
Zarb's Dahar, who is 11 for 12 overall at Louisiana Downs, earned $60,000 for the win. His overall record is now 12 wins from 24 starts and earnings of $386,075. Zarb's Dahar races for his breeder, Foxwood Plantation.

I saw the race live.
Zarb's Dahar showed great determination and class. He was spotting the field a bunch of weight, and was clearly struggling with either the track or his foot problem. But he would not let the other horse get by.
Another horse that really impressed me that day was The Beter Man Can, a very nice 3-yr-old filly that you might hear more from in 2006.
