This is horribe!!!

From The Thoroughbred Times:

Hundreds of Thoroughbreds killed after racing halted in Beijing

About 600 Thoroughbreds have been killed after racing in Beijing was discontinued in October, Racing Post reports.
The killings included 400 Thoroughbreds in training and 200 mares from a population exceeding 2,000. They were administered lethal injections.

Kevin Connolly, racing director at Beijing racecourse, confirmed some of the killings but said they were not out of line with the typical end-of-season practice of culling.

"All the horses have not been culled. We normally cull at the end of each season, such as retired and injured horses, mares that have not conceived for a number of seasons, the same as most places," Connolly told Racing Post. "Should racing start again, we will [have] more than enough horses to race."

With the communist government frowning on pari-mutuel wagering, the Beijing Tongshun Jockey Club has been an on-again off-again proposition in the 21st century.

There are hundreds of imported horses in Beijing, the majority of which are from Australia, Racing Post reports.

China is not a market for United States Thoroughbreds. In 2004, only one U.S. horse was exported to China, Jockey Club spokesman John Cooney said.
"Animals are such agreeable friends--they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms."
