San Gabriel winner Badge of Silver to continue racing
Multiple Grade 2 winner Badge of Silver will remain in training in 2006 instead of beginning his stud career as originally planned.
The six-year-old son of Silver Deputy out of Silveroo, by Silver Hawk, had been scheduled to stand for $12,500 at owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Ramsey Farm in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
Ken Ramsey and trainer Bobby Frankel changed their minds after Badge of Silver won the San Gabriel Handicap (G2) on January 1 by 2½ lengths at Santa Anita Park in his turf debut.
“I’m into racing more than breeding, so it just made sense to keep him going,” Ramsey said.

Whew, okay.
Man, this saga of Badge of Silver has been confusing, but we have an answer now.
Kick turf ass, Mr. Badge
Hopefully, if he does well this year, he'll have more positive interest when he begins his second career (never heard that there wasn't sufficient interest, I just assume so, being that he was pulled from retirement twice).

As BOS tail-female line is a rising star on the turf. Why did the Ramsey's wait until the leaves have fallen from the trees to run BOS on the turf?
JMHO but Badge of Silver is the perfect age to be running on the lawn and could probably run for years if they let him.

When BOS shipped from Hollywood Pk. to run in the San Gabriel turf at SA, I had a talk with BOS, I asked him why it took so long for the Ramsey's to run him on the turf.
BOS told me that Frankel was the one who suggested that BOS should be tried on grass. Thanks for the tip BOS, as you made every post a winning one.

Ramsey seems to be stuck on dirt racing. He has said he still wanted Kitten's Joy to point to the Derby even though the colt showed a strong affinity for grass. He breeds his Lear Fan mare to El Prado and wants the colt to be a dirt runner
I'm glad BOS will race on, but sorry they didn't try him on the turf sooner. As fragile as he's been, hopefully he'll stay sound on that surface. As a stallion prospect, I still say "Blech."

The Derby definately seems to be their ultimate goal, but they take what they get- and they seem to get mostly grass horses
Kitten's Joy, Nothing to Lose, and now Badge of Silver- ah, if only the Derby was run on grass!
As for Kitten's Joy, they originally intended to sell him because of the grass pedigree (because they wanted a Derby horse)- ah, what a mistake that would have been
Lucky for them, that didn't happen. Then they only entertained dreams of the Derby for a very short time (one maiden dirt race and one workout on the dirt), to their credit and the Kitten's benefit. Thank the Lord, they got over the Derby drug on that one.
