Achilles of Troy in the Count Fleet

Damn jock needs to be fired and have a wipe jammed up HIS butt.
There was NO reason to be hitting that horse that late in the race like that, I don't give a damn WHAT his excuse might be (I'm going to assume it will be something like "I was trying to get him to change leads") and Frank Lyons was DEAD on for jumping on that as his first comments on the race. Race wasn't even over and I was yelling at the TV about the ass beating on his horse like that.

I absolutely agree. It was an EASY win. There was no reason for the jock to wail on him like that, he was more than doing his job and leaving the field decidedly in his dust.
I don't think the race outcome would have been any different if it had been a hand ride to the wire.

So many pedigrees...so little time. (C)
Hi folks,
I imagine the jock was told to keep on him. Ernie's fallen on some harder times and certainly would like to add to his stallion collection.
Big margin of victory, fast time and most impressive was the last 70 yard split in 4.04 seconds (assuming it's accurate) because that's sub :24 second quarter time only I'd look a little more closely.
The track favored horses that were close all day with some eye-popping times. A MdnSpWt for (just turned) 3yos went 6f in 1:09.14. A state-bred Alwc n2L at the same distance went in 1:42.33 and the winner would have been closer to Achilles of Troy than Extra Bend (who finished second). MdnCl25k (cheapest) went in 1:10.4. Alwc n2L in 1:09.2. Fast, very fast track. The average margin of victory for all the races on this day was more than 5 lengths.
Impressive? Yes, superior? no.
I have a bone to pick with Ernie who seems to have his history mixed up. Achilles was never of Troy - more the scourge of it. He was a Myrmidion.
Regards,
Pete

That didn't occur to me, but I did think it might be a bit of a jinx to name a racehorse after someone who had a big problem with his heel.

I knew a guy who refused to let his girlfriend get a kitten unless he got to name it. She finally agreed. He named it Stella.
She never let him name another being in their house.
