Full Moon Madness
Just got a DRF notice that he's entered on January 28th at Sunland Park. 10th race (a stake), 5 furlongs, post 10. Not too encouraged by the distance because he tends to come from behind. Being ridden by R. Jaime. Anybody in the area who can give me a rundown on how he does? He's a favorite of mine. 11 years old over $1.2 million in earnings and recently claimed for $16,000 at Santa Anita.

He's a CalBred . . . . (but works with non-CalBreds too)
Click on the replays, then click on the horse tab, put his name in there, click search . . . .

Regarding Love that Red, the articles I read said that the owner saw him running around in a field and thought he might as well run around in a race. (People use that excuse that horses love racing, which they can, but totally ignore the fact that the horse is old, its legs can't stand the treatment that they could as a young horse, and that the horse has given them lots of pleasure and money.) Personally, I think it's just greed. You can give all the excuses you want (love to run, unhappy at the farm, etc.) but it comes down to the owner is either missing being in the winners' circle or tired of paying board bills. Regardless, the structural soundness of an old horse is being sacrificed at the ego and greed of the owner. Same thing with Full Moon Madness. A gorgeous old horse who deserves to retire. When I've visited Thoroughbred retirement homes, the ones I've been to put a lot of time and effort into making sure the horse that's gotten a lot of attention on the track gets put where things are going on. If s/he doesn't want to be with other horses then s/he's given a pen near activity, etc. It's a real joy to see a field of old class geldings mingling and eating grass together. They certainly deserve that.

The race he's entered in on Saturday is a stakes.summerhorse wrote:11 years old and running in cheap claimers? What does a millionaire have to do to earn a decent retirement?
Wasn't he claimed by Chris O'Dell? He's entered under Leonard Duncan on Saturday. Believe Duncan was recently suspended in California for failing to fulfill a financial agreement. I was hoping Full Moon Madness would stay in O'Dell's barn...he's very honest and very good with the older guys.

Bang won impressively . . . . . . in the stretch the race caller said, "where are the challengers . . . there are none". Bang really looked on the muscle.
Moony finished 6th.

Fullmoon Madness has new owners, so technically he still "owes" them for his purchase price
Man, I hope they didn't pay much for him then
Seriously, the owners were the ones who chose to claim an old horse whose best days are way behind him- it ain't his fault if they don't make their money back. He don't owe them nothin'
