Edward Freeman, new face at Santa Anita!

Postby wilf » Sun Mar 26, 2006 5:42 pm

Edward Freeman was the trainer of record of Silver Highlight , a grey Silver Charm filly who won the 9th race yesterday at Santa Anita, he is a new face in So Cal and was interviewed after the race on HRTV.I was surprised that they had not researched him beforehand as Alex Solis rode her to victory as the favourite giving the horse creedence at entry time. This guy has paid his dues and can train alongside anyone. His father was a jumps jockey in England and indeed rode the winner of the Grand National during his career. Ed was assistant trainer to a very prolific stable and then came to Canada in the 80s to make his own way in the sport. He was based at Woodbine and Fort Erie where he bought many horses out of England and developed them into stakes caliber runners in North America.Recently he purchased the very first yearling at auction by Elusive Quality who went onto win the first stake race for that stallion before Smarty Jones came along to cement him as a world class stallion. He is a quiet achiever compared to some of the blowhards that have permeated this game of late, I wish him well as someone who is embracing the So Cal racing scene rich in history instead of bolting what seems to be a sinking ship.

Congrats to trainer Edward Freeman on breaking his maiden on this tough S. Cal circuit.

When they announced his nme after the race I didnt know who EF was.

EF is not stabled at Santa Anita, he must be stabled at Hollywood Park.

Thanks for his background report Wilf, I will introduce my self to Ed when I see him on the back side. Yours in Sport Louis.
