My sentimental favorite is still Lawyer Ron, however I was impressed with him today. He did not get the best of starts, but still made it from the number 10 spot to a good position. Then, showed some real courage and determination at the end. Yes, he appears to be the real deal. I also admire his trainer. This year is getting interesting. Maybe the pedigree folks can help me decide?

All I've got to say is buy shares in ROBERTO line stallions. The last two weeks on the global circuit has let this stallion's line shine. I love it! Wilf: I'm still crossing my fingers for Flashy Bull, but it looks to me like this train is leaving the station.

Roberto was and still is a very important influence, and I expect to see some Dynaformer relations carry-on his name, at a very high level.

As you know, Barbaro is by Dynaformer (by Roberto)...but don't overlook Strong Contender. Although he's sired by Maria's Mon he is out of a Dynaformer (by Roberto) mare.

You said it. See lots of folks are worried about Storm Cat getting up in age. I'm more worried about Dynaformer being 21. The Roberto line rules.

Ugh, the seasoning and the RAN curse bug me with Barbaro but once again I'm going to kinda root for a horse that previous experience would tell me was not gonna work out partly cuz I like him and partly cuz I'm amused he's trained by Michael Matz. I got all excited about Bellamy Road and Point Given and what did I get? An unseasoned horse snuffing it in the Derby and a relatively unseasoned 3yo with the RAN curse snuffing it in the Derby. I never learn, I'm telling ya. Every year I kinda cave a bit and every year it holds up. You never know. The top few prospects are all RAN victims so maybe this is the year from sheer overwhelming numbers of RAN entrants.

I'm still waiting for a big time son of his to hit the sire ranks. He doesn't have much time left. I love my Kris S. branch, but I'd like to see the Dynaformer branch of Roberto to completely vanish.

Kris S. and Dynaformer are both great sires but both are struggling as being a sire of sires. Just name all the good sons of Kris S., Dynaformer, and Silver Hawk at stud. You will probably not come up with many. I think you will see more of their blood continue on in bloodlines through their daughters.

I'm sure that's going to be true for the most part. Though, in their defense (or at least Kris S.'s) a lot of it comes from the mares he was bred to for a good part of his career. Them Florida mares really aren't the best for getting power stallions. If you look, most of the Kris S.s at stud have some really obscure female lines and come from second rate Broodie sires. Really only Rock Hard Ten and Arch have the goods as far as female family and Broodmare sire.

Thanks Louis. So, he's got the breeding, and he has shown some character in the Florida Derby. I guess that makes him a contender? I guess we will see if the five weeks without a race is really a good strategy. At least he may show up in one piece!

Ok you guys are going to hate me for this one. But I saw the FL Derby race were Barbaro won, but I have to admit I've seen far better kentucky Derby prospective winners then him. He's a nice horse, don't get me wrong, but the FL Derby was a close race.

Barbaro looks good but High Fly looked good at Gulfstream last year...Last year they tried to get High Fly ready after the April 2nd race now Barbaro will attempt the same. It will be tough to go 5 weeks...

I guess it depends on what you think of Sharp Humor. If you saw the Swale Stakes, Sharp Humor showed what kind of horse he was when he refused to let Noonmark pass him.

www.kentuckyderby.com has the replay. For those who haven't seen the Swale, it's worth viewing and might give you more insight on Sharp Humor. I think he's a really nice horse.

I came away impressed again on Saturday, especially with Barbaro. So much so that Barbaro is now my Derby pick! Note that Barbaro ran 1/2 length faster than Bandini over the same distance, just one race earlier. Barbaro is bred to run all day and looks to have a nice bottom. He also shrugged off the bumping on the first turn and just kept running.
