Wonderful link and most entertaining. And this link proved to be a most interesting history lesson learning some of the names of some of the greats from the past. Oh, to have been there in good ol' days ...
Turf: I thought Nijinsky II who was the last horse to win the English Triple Crown and who won the St. Ledger Sakes at 14 furlongs and 127 yards cannot be denied in the top three.
Mile: Pretty Polly
Distaff: Can't see how they beat Twilight Tear
Juvenile: Whirlaway (interesting how he had him drifting towards the fence!)

In agreement, a nice history lesson. I didnt remember Secretariat was the turf champion too. With any of these dream horses how could you place them last in the field?
triple crown, love to see it but odds are against it. I think it will happen again, came close last year, so I'll keep watch for it.

This is great!
But it's RIBOT all the way!

I thought the 9th place finish by Round Table was way off here.
Here we have the Champion grass horse 57, 58, and 59 and in 58 he won Handicap Horse of the year; set or equalled 15 track records and set a new American record for a mile and a quarter carrying 132 pounds. In the first graph of this analysis he, "takes up the chase in fourth", in the second graph is a, "comfortable fourth", and in the last graph he, "press [es] on gamely, but the unrelenting pace is taking its toll." One would think after running forth for a mile, he should be full of wind and come with a rush the last part of the race; we all know the principle: slow early fast late.
Oh well ... still fun to read even after the first read. Although I haven't read the book about Whirlaway, I have done some reading about him and part of that reading was he was unruly and w/o blinkers ran rank and towards the outside fence. I figure they ran him w/o blinkers in this one! They should do this for a match race ... Secretariat - vs - Whirlaway. The following lists their racing records. Tell me my friend who will win?

I know, I know and I'm sure we've all hear it 1.3675 million times ... Secretariat was the greatest racehorse that ever lived. However, I have yet to find a horse with a winning record as a 2yo equal to that of Whirlaway. But most interesting I find these two horses highlight the generational differences in the breed, particularly in the number or races. Surely the thoroughbred has changed and that evolution towards speed continues. Always fun for me to take a journey back in time to the classic days of racing. Thanks for sending me back.

since we can only speculate, lettuce say whirlaway because he is the only crown-winner ever to go on and win Travers S. The quad-king if you willaway.
Now into the future, going to Oaklawn on the 15th if they donthave a dress code and tooth count.
please pick an exacta for me and not the derby race. I read somewhere on the internet you like to do that kinda stuff. Thanks.

That was very interesting, thanks a lot Ragsdaj. To argue the merits of any of the runners would be a waste as they were all history-makers and living legends. Its funny too as I recall being in a courthouse in Adelaide , South Australia in the mid 70s on a charge of speeding and the man in front of me that day was up for being drunk and disorderely; his name was Pat Glennon. I knew about his great career overseas after leaving Australia and wish now that I could have spent a few hours just listening to his recollections of Sea=Bird 11 and life in France. Sorry to digress but it did bring back a long forgotten time. Thanks again.

wilf,
Yes indeed those good ol' memories. If only I could go back to the yesteryear, let us say 1930-59, surely I would have seen some of the great ones. Interesting wilf isn't it, how the brain kinda flashes back on its own and brings back thoughts that seem like yesterday... a good memory of Glennon and the Bird'. And most assuredly, they were all history-makers and living legends, each in their own time.
ragsdaj,
Never heard of The Quad-Crown ... that was good. With respect to Oaklawn on the 15th, I did take a quick glance at the past performances and as I've done in the past, I'll start a thread and post the top three for the AD, The Bluegrass and the Northern Spur. I'll do extra duty on the AD in a nod of appreciation for you linking us to the great days gone past. Now mind you when others ask me for my picks I always give reminding them that it's much more fun and rewarding when the horses YOU PICK come in.

I am thinking race 7 The Instant racing Breeders Cup S race.
#1 Holy Bridle 2 Beau Dare 3 Alys Vow 4 Coronados Vision 5 Seen Dancing 6 Morner 7 Incumbent 8 Gasia
Competitive field but I see this comingdown to Coronado pressed hard by Beau Dare for 2nd and Gasia 3rd, seen dancing 4 and the rest of the field.
I know little about betting and will change this order when I see them walking around the stalls surely. The only thing for certain is I will bet 4 dollars.
