Betting on the Derby

Postby Bondama » Thu May 04, 2006 7:56 am

How would someone who is not attending the Derby place a bet? Can I go to my local track and do it there?

I'm not a racing person, obviously. While I'm not a newbie to this board, I'm not pimping a book either! Just know squat about betting. I want to bet on Lawyer Ron because I work for a lawyer named Ron and find it humorous!

Thanks for your gentle suggestions.

You can go to your local track and wager, or off-track wagering facility in some states. There is also online wagering at some sites such as TVG.com or YouBet.com but i'd lean toward making a trip to the actual track nearby.

Or you can find someone on this forum who is going and to place a bet for you. I remember a few years ago a forum member was placing bets for other members who were unable to make it for the KD. You can always use play money. Just in case your horse does not come in according to your wager, you won't feel so bad. Sometimes (Always...), and after I donate my $, I wished my betting currency was play money. Although, when you win it's a totally different story. It comes occassionally. Good luck in your handicapping

definitely go to your local track and make time to hang out for awhile. it should actually be quite fun. all the tracks racing live should have good cards on derby day.

Bondama:

1) You cannot go to an off track betting facility because you are in FL and there are no OTB facilities in FL.

2) Your only shot is to go a horse racing track, which I believe would be Calder since Gulfstream just closed. Hialeah is another track probably not open now. Google these and see.

3) YOu cannot ask people to make bets for you! This is called bookmaking and illegal everywhere.

Even in Fl you can have a Brisbet or TVG account and bet online.

Thanks all. Actually, our little farm is one stop sign away from Tampa Downs, so have planned to go there and place my bet(s). At first, I planned to only bet on Lawyer Ron, but after reading the posts here about picks, I will probably bet on a few others as well, and do a box or two just for fun. Don't plan to spend more than $50 total, though - keeping it small and safe and fun. Thanks for all the suggestions - I think going to my local track is the safest thing. :D
