We should hear something today or tomorrow. I tune into HRTV and TVG here and they would mention how he's faring. Keep checking the Blood-Horse and Thoroughbred Times websites too. If something is very amiss with him, it will be told in the press, on the web, and on TV. Let's hope there's nothing wrong with him.

Are you kidding... he galloped out just fine. I just HAD to bet on him because I think Michael Matz is the prototype trainer of the future.
That's because we have similar backgrounds and I am training my first string this year
No other trainer has ever won a Derby with so LITTLE time in the racing industry. Matz has tons of experience with horses required to do a lot more than run around a left hand oval (like me) so I was so CHEERED by his horse's serious win.

The drf has an article titled "Barbaro good to go again." and the first paragraph says:
"LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Kentucky Derby appeared to take so little out of the victorious Barbaro that a couple of hours after the race, when trainer Michael Matz got a brief respite from the postrace interviews and phoned his assistant, Peter Brette, to see how Barbaro was doing back at the barn, Brette replied, "You could enter him again tomorrow."

Not lame (at least not me) ... 'gimpy' ... like maybe his feet stung. It wasn't nearly as noticible as immediately after Charismatic's Derby where he was clearly hurting and bobbing his head.

Some TB walk like their sore or off, when their only walking their walk.
A stable employee can tell how their real every day walk is and how they walk when something is amiss.
The power of observation is the key to each individual TB. When you keep your eyes open one will see many things.

I agree w/Madelyn. I bet BARBARO to win for two reasons. First, he hadn't been beaten. Second, the confidence of his trainer. (To be honest, I bet LAWYER RON to win too.
) My daughters have been involved in sports horses for years and Matz's reputation as a horseman precedes him. You don't get to the status Matz has attained in the horse world without being an extraordinary horseman. Many trainers who started with hurdlers have also risen to the top ranks of racehorse training. Tom Voss comes to mind along with Doug Fout and his late father, Paul. The Maryland, PA, VA circuits are replete with trainers that can succeed at both disciplines. With Matz's depth of experience in the eventing world, he could probably get a horse to do a back flip off of Frankie Dettori's back. I have really never thought to much about it until lately but good show and event horse trainers are very hard to come by. Matz was quoted as saying ". . . good horses make good riders . . . and trainers." I agree. But exceptional horsemen choose extraordinary horses to train. I'll bet there are no nags in Matz's barn. I don't know what took the Jackson's to Matz, but whatever reason, it was smart thinking and smart business.
