Crimson Ide at River Downs... very neat race

Postby surprisewind » Wed May 24, 2006 7:09 am

Every once in a while I have time to watch horse racing TV and occasionally there's a race that makes me say, "Whoo-hoo."

Saw Crimson Ide run at River Downs. Didn't catch race number, conditions or purse, but it was a really neat thing to watch.
He broke wide from the outside position, blew past them others to the rail and opened up a huge lead without much, if any, encouragement. In the last 3/16 (I think) he lost the lead to a grey and looked like he was seriously tired.
The jockey waved the whip a bit, Crimson Ide hit a new gear and won by a length or so.
Seriously cool.

I always thought Ide was an interesting stallion. Doesn't seem to be very commercial, though.

Zialand - FYI, generally as regards yearlings you are correct about Ide as a stallion lacking commerciality. However, I believe it was an Ide offspring - a filly as I recall - that was the top seller for $270,000 at this past March's F-T Tx 2YO In Training Sale - after setting an incredible fast work. So they can be commercial - if you are willing to invest/bet on the offspring's having demonstrable, early maturing talent. Here's a link to the Clear Creek Stud website that features News/Facts about IDE. (If you haven't seen it already you need to scroll back to see his photo - IMO he's a seriously hansome boy with quite alot of flash to him!)

Jellac,

Thanks for the info. The stud fee does seem very reasonable.

I wonder how non-Texas breds would fair at F/T Tex? (The breeding wouldn't qualify as a New Mexico bred, either.)
