Dreams for Hire is entered Friday

Postby henthorn » Tue Sep 19, 2006 3:21 pm

After all the trials and tribulations that this wild girl has put us through, we feel she needs a race. She leans on the "self-destruct" button  most of the time, so we have to plan each move carefully with her. Each van ride or barn visit is an adventure in itself  , but we feel she is ready for an easy race to get her back into it gently, and hopefully make some money. We know from her attitude and workouts that she is a winner, if she can just maintain her composure. She loves competition, and was a trooper standing in the gates and in her gate work. :D

She is entered in race 4 at Remington Park, Oklahoma City on Friday night September the 22nd, which should go off at about 7:45 CDT. She's in PP2 of 12, in a field of Maiden fillies and mares 3 & UP, going 5 furlongs on the dirt for a $7500 tag. Pray for a smooth process and all return healthy, please. I doubt she'd get claimed after a year-long layoff, and with the reputation she has developed; but if so, better luck to them than we had. She may make a great broodmare, but I'd rather she earn some money first, if possible.

Good luck with her henthorn - I know from experience that this kind of horse can keep their owners 'on the ropes' from the moment they are entered til they head for the test barn (hopefully she'll win and have to go there!)

Henthorn has she worked at this time of day before? Under lights? At dinner time? I assume even if she trailers in she'll spend some time in a stall? I recommend Tagamet or Zantac for the humans involved. Best of luck!!! :D

What a group of mixed-up fillies! They were acting up, kicking, running around in the paddock, spooking at shadows. Mine was about like half the field. She had a new jockey on her, and she popped out of the gate well after waiting for ten outside horses to load. She got out into good position in about third position, then seemed to lose interest, and faded to the rear. No obvious cause, but I have to think some of it was her recent sinus infection, and maybe some reactive airways. I know lots of humans are suffering from ragweed allergies, and the dust and wind has been bad this week. I'm hoping it's not that she shrunk from competition; that's not like her!

We'll see! She went off at 50:1 tonight, but probably needed the race after the year's layoff anyway. I hope she puts more together next out.

Glad she came away ok and you're not lamenting some new physical damage to property. She didn't bring home a paycheck but she didn't cost you anything out of the ordinary today either. Congrats!!

In our country with a lot of trainer owners, it might be good for her racing her once a fortnight without loads of workouts in between, it is a cost reduce operation.

Thanks, Ben. We've been thinking the same thing.
