Oh what the heck I entered Tevvy and Chief in two turf races at Woodbine for wednesday night as there's nothing doing here on the grass and Presque Ise's book is very odd right now. It's only 90 minutes along the QEW Hwy and you get expenses paid even if you trail the field. Chief can get some cover and speed to run at albeit faster than he can go and Tevvy finally has a chance to grass again after almost 2 years. At worst it will keep them fit and is a nice change from the boredom of training on dirt. So there you have it.

Not a bad run for 4th money at Presque Isle, the track was rather spongy in the heat and humidity. My rider was frustrated by two slouches blocking us but then we got carted out wide and of course the rail opened up like the red sea soon after ,the winner coming up the rail. That's racing of course so I will regroup and let him recover from the hot journey in his own time. Now then some of the others will have to pay his bills for a change.

After plenty of time off to manage a small soft tissue injury I gave him a dirt race at Fort Erie to wind him up again and it served it's purpose but he will not run at all when dirt hits him in the face. Anyway I will be looking for a race at Presque Isle obviously now that the summer heat has abated . He may be in the running for a second career soon as the cost of owning/training cheaper horses has skyrocketed lately with the price of hay and feed going up every week recently. The omens are not good my friends.
I think the hay/feed prices are rising in anticipation of the results of this year's harsh weather and drought. There is no shortage yet but people are raising their prices now anyway. The increases have not hit me personally yet. I just got a load of (delivered) big square alfalfa (65lb +) bales at about $4.75 a bale..
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
