Doctor Deception

Postby DanN » Sat Jul 01, 2006 3:36 pm

Doctor Deception will get his first start @ Emerald on july 4 in a 30000.00 opt claiming.. Doc as we call him had a bacterial infection at the track last year as a 2 year old.. Out of 8 horses that got it 6 were put down. Every 2 days about a gallon of fluid was pulled off the side of his lungs..It took 2 months before he was well enough to travel before we could take him home.. Vet had told us we had lung damage and the chances of him racing yet alone making it through this was slim.. With the very high temp. he had it was amazing his white feet held up.. Well young horses lungs can repair themselves and this little guy is a fighter and has made it..To us it is a big acomplishment just to make it back to the track but doc had a great vet and trainer and tons of special care from them.. Sure hope they dont televise the paddock area cause he is owned by 4 different families and I know at least 3 will have tears in our eyes when he steps on the track for the first time. We are just hoping for a good first trip..

doc ran a great race finishing 5th by 3 lengths.. stalked the leader to the stretch then caught him but got tired .. very tired .. He collapsed fifty yards past the finish and just layed on the ground.. State vet wanted to put him down but our trainer wanted to bring him to the backside and check him out.. After the ride back and being checked by our vet .. he seen nothing wrong and got doc up and he seems fine.. Totally exhausted.. We will do blood work and check out his heart but are scratching our heads.. And we named him as a weanling with no idea he would live up to it..

:D Quick nap on the track? :D

Sounds like he gave it all he had, though. And a good run.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

we have had something like this for 3 jrs ago, the reason was obvious
The early pace was far too hot for our filly, and she went almost down.
Try to race him of the pace next time, and give him distance, so that he is able to balance himself.
Give him a good masage before the race so that he is quiet and relax before the race. His haertbeat will go down with at least 10 beats a minute
as he seems pouring out himself
I am sure next time out he will improve.

Thanks for the advice Ben.. I guess we have never had a horse that had tried so hard and that he did..
