Motion Approved
Tonight I get to see how my "first-born" does in the feature race at Remington Park. The 5yo With Approval gelding is the first homebred produced from my first mare Shake on It.
He is set to race in the 8th at about 9:39 pm CDT. 1 1/16th mile on the dirt for $100,000 purse. Tough bunch of horses at the distance, but he got second in an open stake worth same money this spring.
I didn't let anybody know until too late to make plans, so I'll join the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Association in their penthouse suite to share stories with other owner/breeders.
His picture is in the database and avatar. I found a newborn picture of him just the other day when he was a bay colt.

Motion rules!
Almost.
He went off as the 9:2 second choice behind 3:10 favorite Zee Oh Six, who had won this race two of the past three years already. Zee is a pacesetter and Motion is a stalker. Another horse vied with the champ but he was easily shaken off, then my boy made his steady charge to make up most of the distance, finishing in second place, one length from the front and nine lengths ahead of the tiring third horse. This brings his record to 15 3 4 3, $83,744.
I guess attrition had taken its toll, and fear of facing the champ, as the racing secretary had had a hard time filling the race and lured some wannabees into the race who performed about as well as can be expected. But this boy really belonged in the race, and continues to improve at age five. Zee is seven now, so maybe next year!
Zee Oh Six deserved it, as he has now made more than $400,000. His half-sister Belle of Cozzene had also won the Classic, and her bankroll was over $500,000. Their Slewacide half-sister Belle's Good Cide is dam of Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide.
Our boy continues to bless his connections, nonetheless.
