Good news for Music Fest

Postby henthorn » Sun Feb 11, 2007 1:05 pm

When I sold Music Fest at the F-T Texas yearling sale in 2005, the purchaser said he had bought her for a broodmare for his stallion Toolighttoquit in Louisiana. I asked him to consider racing her first, since her mother had won in open stakes company at two and at three. He said he'd think about it.

Later I tried to contact him to see if he had changed his mind on the filly, and got no response. Since he is an elderly gentleman, I wondered if he was even still making decisions for her future. I've kept her on my stable mail through the Daily Racing Form for notifying me with an e-mail if/when she ever works out, enters, or races, but had never seen anything about her. So I expected now that she is three years old, the owner would be ready to breed her.

Lo and behold! Today my stable mail announced that she had worked today at Louisiana Downs at three furlongs, so she is finally in race training. Maybe her Texas-bred accreditation and Breeders Cup status will yet come into play for opportunities to race and potentially for me, the breeder, to benefit. Naturally, I'd like her to be a good racehorse, for her dam's sake, her owner's, and mine. Then she can be a "blue hen"! :P

Of course, the sky's the limit for her! I really hope she shows something at the racecourse, to help your pages as a breeder.

Believe me--if she doesn't become a runner, it would have to be due to injury. Because she was the toughest tomboy in the field as a baby, always covered with scrapes, cuts, and mud. And her mama comes from many generations of tough girls with long race careers. Spanish Guitar is her mama, and she was great fun to race, and my first/only stakes winner so far. Spanish was ALL BUSINESS.

This filly is her first foal, by the notorious Texas now-gelded one-season stallion Festival of Light, an A.P. Indy half-brother to Arch. Spanish has a 2yo colt by Silver Ghost, produced a dead Arch filly last year, and is due with a Prime Timber cover in late April for full New York-bred status. She's booked to Eddington thereafter.

Oh my God! You're kidding! My third partnership horse - the infamous Gear It Up who was injured at Mountaineer - is by Festival of Light. Music Fest and G. Up are two of the only 53 offspring there will ever be by Festival of Light. I think he could have been an excellent sire.

Stranger things have happened, geowarrior. Maybe even one of his daughters or sons could figure into history on the track and/or in the family trees.

Well, of our two, it would have to be Music Fest - Gear It Up is a gelding.

:P  Maybe Gear It Up will be the next Funny Cide or Best Pal or Kelso or John Henry, etc., etc. And Music Fest will be the next Serena's Song.

For you Festival Of Light fans - he just had another winner in MSW (I personally like this horse's name as "Dawali" is a Hindu festival of lights.....) I'm not really sure how to break out the times as they copy from the Texas Thoroughbred Association website's Results for Texas-breds page

Dawali Hou WON 1.201:12-1 6f Md Sp Wt (3yoF) StBred $8,700 $10,2953FTX

Thanks for that info Jellac. I noticed that Festival of Light was already on the board of second crop sires with some earnings but I didn't know by whom. And that is a beautiful name. Gear It Up has not raced since his injury. He has switched barns and is at Fair Grounds, and his trainer has had some obstacles in bringing him back to racing fitness. However he is now breezing well and is very happy by all accounts. Like Music Fest, Gear It Up has a lot of character and heart. It would be so cool if they both could do well, Henthorn, we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.
