Wordplay gets her first start

Postby henthorn » Sat Apr 21, 2007 6:21 pm

Wordplay, the gray filly in my avatar, is entered for her debut in the second race, #6, Prairie Meadows in Iowa, at 3:55 CDT on Tuesday the 24th. She is a 4yo by Alphabet Soup out of my mare Shake On It. It is a 5 1/2 furlong race on the dirt.

She is the half sister to Geri's 3yo Stage Center, who ran at Oaklawn and was claimed on her last out. Her Vicar baby half-brother is the little leaping chestnut born in February named Agent Red. Her 3/4 brother Motion Approved is a 6yo gelding by With Approval training in Oklahoma. She has a 2yo half-sis by Sligo Bay starting in training named Starlight Bay.

Mom is in KY visiting Eddington this month.

She ran a good race (for show spot) in the sloppy mud. She went off as the 1.60 favorite, and the second favorite was at 2.10. Both were first time starters, as were most of the seven that actually raced. The other filly went wire-to-wire and kept gaining advantage, finished 6 1/4 lengths ahead of the second horse, who was 3/4 ahead of mine and tiring. Mine ran mid-pack in 5th to 3rd position all the way, and wide.

Nice purse and good experience. Next time Wordplay won't have to meet In the Boonies again, thank goodness!

Well done! She got a good experience (albeit a sloppy one) and will be a good one for you. Love those Soups (and With Approvals, of course)!

Congrats!!! Can,t we get the sloppy/muddy track overhere???
Lots of horsies stay in the stable because of the firm, hard turf track.
