Well if the race fills we will try it again this time on our home track on sunday@ Emerald Downs.. After his Bay Meadows debut we have worked a lot on his back and ribs.. He has been training well but just is not as sharp as he was in Calif. I guess maybe this race will tell..

Good Luck!!!!!!!!

Our horse is back.. I didnt know a second place finish could be so nice. after his first effort @ bay meadows we had to work a lot on keeping him loosened up and knew we might be a little short .. He had a very nice trip and next out should be a good one..

Sometimes a second-place finish is a blessing, because you don't lose a condition through winning, when your horse may not be ready to move on to tougher competition. And it helps pay the bills.

My 2yo (June filly) Leap for Joy in 2001 came in fourth in her debut, so we entered her in an overnight stake (non-black-type), since the purse was better, and the competition was poor. She won the race, to our surprise!

But then she was no longer eligible for the ALW NWX condition, and there weren't enough winners around to fill a NW2X race. And she had to carry extra weight as winner of a "sweepstakes". She wasn't really stakes quality, either; and she hadn't earned black type for future value as a broodmare. So we took her to Keeneland for some KY-bred ALW N2X money, and she only took 4th, about enough money to pay for the trip and associated training time. She took another year or more to win her second race in claiming company at Turf Paradise, since she couldn't compete with the tougher girls at Lone Star, Prairie Meadows, or Louisiana Downs.

Perhaps a few initial placings in maiden company would have given her the experience and confidence to master better company later on. She's still racing for someone else at $12.5K-20K claiming at age six at Turf Paradise. She's always been competitive and sound, otherwise she would have fallen by the wayside long ago. Her pix is in the database:
