Coquinerie in on the 6th

Postby Coquinerie » Sun Jun 05, 2005 6:53 am

Coquinerie is in on the 6th (tomorrow) at Calder in Race 2, and Optional Claimer. Our trainer really wants her back at a mile to learn how to use that great turn of foot she has earlier. Let's see how she does this time. I swear this filly always gives me a heart attack when she races.

What is there about her that "always gives you a heart attack when you race her"? I think the deep closers are the worst for owner anxiety, because you never know if they'll really make a move from the rear. :x  :P 8)

That's exactly what it is. She always spots the field at least 10. And she never makes her move until the last turn and then she just picks them off like crazy. But its just such anxiety knowing she has only one run, and she has to get through a field to make it to the winner's circle. So much can go wrong... it just drives me crazy!

Hop to It was the same way. I'm glad I was younger then, and my constitution was tougher.

We have a mare like that, but unfortunately we didn't own her while she was racing... we've just had her during her broodmare career. I have a tape of her last season, and she breaks and stops every time. I'm amazed at how she can come from so far behind and win every time.

I think no matter what type of running style your horse has, you stress because it's your horse. Even if they're running away with the lead, you stress because you don't know if they can hold on at the end. At least, I do... maybe I just stress too easily.

Anyway, good luck tomorrow. I'm sure she'll do you proud.

Well she finished second on the slop. She really had every reason to win but just kinda hung it in deep stretch. Cant say im disappointed though. I adore this filly. I would have preferred if it stayed on the turf but the beauty of both my fillies is their versatility on surface. Probably a small stakes next out I think.

Her good performance is nice though since today has been rough so far... my new puppy passed away. God bless him.

Many congrats, she did become second, unless changing to the slop.
