Yay Mae East!

Postby adrienne » Fri Jul 15, 2005 8:35 pm

She finally won!

She got sold sometime in the last two weeks. Her new trainer's good friend/assistant looked at her pedigree and said "this horse can run all day!"

The placed her at 1 mile 70 yards up from 5.5-6f and upped her to a $25k claiming level from $10k.

"MAE EAST dueled outside of RUMORS WILD to the final turn, went clear entering the bend, widened in upper stretch and prevailed under urging."

Prevailed by 5 1/2 lengths!

I was jumping all over because I have only a mild connection with this horse (her dam is my favorite mare in the world <g>) and I have always been complaining about their placement of her.

I know the trainer's friend/assistant so we got to talk after the race. We're just gushing like little girls about stamina :) I'm just so happy because in several of her starts she had been profoundly outrun and I never thought I would get to see her cross the finish line so unhurried AND at a class higher than she'd been running in! The time was embarassingly slow, but that's not surprising because the race was almost completely uncontested, once Rumors Wild tired, Mae East had her way. She was pulling ahead from the 1/2 pole on. She also looks fantastic and for that I thank her new trainer. I guess they've been spending time getting her to calm down and she's become a huge sweetheart. She's gained weight and I guess is now a peppermint hog.

I also won $50 betting across the board on her so I think I've finally made back what I've lost in the past two seasons ;)

Another favorite of mine, a tough claimer named Pnutbutterandjolie also won. An amazing stretch drive from her. She took the lead and dueled it at a mile and 70 yards. I never thought she would make it with two strong closers coming up late. The jockey looked around and without using the whip just let her out one more notch. She sailed and was pulling away again as she crossed the finish line. A true act of class as her jockey is not well known for his hand rides.

Unfortunately this is not the gangly little filly shipping from Kansas that I used to know... she's now a favorite of the betters, we were lucky to double our money there :)

Maybe this isn't exciting to anyone but me, but I love following these horses:)
