My 1st race horse

Postby toadie » Tue Sep 27, 2005 9:37 pm

I have a 2yr old that I planned to put into training a couple of mos. ago. Well, after talking with several trainers, I decided to go into a partnership on a filly that was ready for her 1st start. That just seemed smarter for my "1st time" than spending the money on my unknown quantity. Anyway I bought in on a Tues. and on Thurs. of that week she ran her 1st race and came in 3rd!!!! 6f MSW at LaD. I managed to get out to LoneStar and watch it at the simulcast bldg. It was more exciting than I'd even imagined :!: She was really green out of the gate, but closed fast and just got beat for 2nd a neck.
Now .....what to do with my 2yr. old :?:

Madelyn, hooked alright! Even though I've had some exciting moments with my event horses, this was totally different. Maybe it was partly nervousness because I had absolutely no control, but nevertheless it was a wonderful feeling. I am sending my 2yr old to be started under saddle this weekend, but not sure that she'll end up at the track. If she remains as quiet as she is now, I may just aim her for the hunters.

Good luck with your 2yo... being quiet doesn't necessarily translate to can't run. However, if you want a hunter and the price was right, etc., the world needs those too.

After the first experience in the gates and everything most fillies changes and becomes much more awareness, so you might have two, start on the look out for co-operation.

Madelyn, I know you're right. The filly that ran is acutally real quiet too. The jock went out of the paddock with his feet out of the stirrups and she didn't look at anything from what I could see on tv.

Benb. Yes, she'll, hopefully, improve from that 1st start. I was just happy that nothing seemed to bother her. He plans to run her again 8Oct. That's a Saturday so I'll get to go this time.

When the jocks go out of the stirrups, it helps to keep the horses so relaxed as possible. They are just sitting there, if they are saying to the horses, nothing,s differrent.
My response was to the one, you,re having originally so the one that has not raced yet.
Horses are able to change very fast after their first real one, not for all of them, but for a fair lot of them

Especially fillies tend to change after they start working(out of gate) and after their first race. If she's not under saddle yet, its hard to say how she will be mentality wise. Most babies are calm and relaxed its once they get fit and run more that they will be more aggressive.
