Wish us luck - this gives her a bit more room up the track to catch others than she's been running (300 - 350yds previously). She rather stubbornly insists on 'hanging' in the gate a mo' but then comes barreling after the leader, with several close "just missed" finishes against good horses....AND its a drop in class (from Futurity trials, Open Mdn races) - so this is a legitimate chance. She's also maturing and comes from a sireline/female family that has been better at producing good 3YOs than 2YOs, her sire being the exception. She's sound and ran very well/consistently in her last out at SHRP was in a photo for 2nd, place 3rd. It is however, her first out on this surface/first time to race at LS.
Far From Enough - she's the ML "chalk" @ 3:1, not sure which race but it's scheduled to go off at 6:40PM CST or a bit after that.
I'm stuck here in Houston - so if anyone from the board is going to be at LS tonight take a look at her for me (and cross your fingers) - we'll be watching her on the simulcast at SHRP.
Our QH filly is in tonite @ LS in Open Mdn Clmg $15K, 400yds

Well...that was certainly no fun to watch....8th or 9th out of 11 horses!
This as how it looked to me:
Unlike every other start she actually got out of the gate well only to hit (or get hit) - hard by the 8th horse. (I'm waiting to hear if she's showing any damage or anything from that collision as it looked like she "sprang" away from that horse as if something stung her or something - though our trainer said he saw nothing overt immediately afterwards.) From there she zinged off to her right towards the 10th horse, but straightened up and not in too bad a position to race on, nor too far behand to catch the leaders......but very quickly there was no place for her to go as the 11th, 10th, 7th and 8th horses all converged on her with the 7th eventually crossing in front of her in a major squeeze out. She was pulled up and went around to her left but by then was too far behind to be able to make up enough ground in the few seconds remaining. Altogether pretty disgusting...to have her placed where everything seemed just right and then to have such a bad run. We watched a few re-runs but I really couldn't tell if she ran over and leaned on the 8th horse or got hit hard by teh 8th horse running into her just one or two strides out of the gate.
Ageecee, anyone else - if you caught it - how did you see it?

jellac, from my years of breeding and racing running QHs I know the split seconds out of the gate (the first 1/10th or 1/5th) can make or break the race. (I truly believe a bad start costed one of my partner's stallions the All American one year.) If she got bumper-carred this bad at the start, throw this race out as an assessment of her talent. The fact that she broke well means everything. Here's hoping next time she gets that perfect break with a better trip so she can show you what she's really got under the hood.
BTW, what's her breeding? (Or did I miss it?)
Madelyn, never knew you raced Quarters, too. What haven't you done? LOL

, but here's the basics:
She's out of the first crop of SW 2YO BRIDLEWOOD (sireline of Raise A Secret - L'Natural - RAN - Native Dancer) who was bought, trained and campaigned by Laura Pinelli & D. Wayne Lucas (when they were married). THey sent him to stud but subsequently divorced (Bridlewood either started out in Texas or ended up here but in any case is standing at Granada Farms in Whelock, Tx - a good outfit). For whatever reasons this filly, who is registered with Laura Pinelli as Breeder was foaled in Kentucky - a state with no incentives for racing QHs - to a mare named Neon Flame by Apollo out of a Dash For Cash mare. Lot's of Three Bars in this family. Female Family is a decently productive family of mostly 3YO/Derby BT winners, rather than 2YO/Futurity BT winners but BRIDLEWOOD himself won BT at age 2. She's really been close to winning against horses that have almost all gone on to win a Futurity/RGS race so she's not being beat by 'also rans'.......and on occaision has shown some blinding fast speed...just not early enough.
Those of you who know something about QHs please PM me with your thoughts of this mare's pedigree and FF, etc. I don't want to start yakking about a QH on the TB pedigree site but would love to hear from those of you have some knowlege of the racing QH stock and their pedigrees. Thanks!
