Looking for info on Good Old Uncle

Postby Suefed » Mon May 29, 2006 7:17 pm

Greetings all. I will try to be as brief as possible. First off, I know very little about horses, and virtually nothing about horse racing. My husband's father, however, owned a racehorse back in the early 80's called Good Old Uncle. The only info I have is the name, the fact that the horse ran at Suffolk Downs, Massachusetts, was dapple grey, and was later sold.

I may have found his pedigree in your database....now bear with me, here is where it gets really corny. My husband remembers this horse, and has talked about him for years. The family has one picture of him, standing with my husbands father and uncles...all Italians, the shot is straight out of Goodfellas. I would love to find out anything at all about this horse, locate a picture of him, or one of his offspring, if he had any.

I was also wondering if he was still alive, and if there was any way of finding out. I realize this is unlikely, but it would be great to let my husband and his brothers know what became of the horse. This is purely for nostalgias sake, as I am trying to locate the one picture of the horse someone in the family has to have it restored and give as a gift to my husband. I would love to include some information on the horse and what became of him.

I am having a hard time deciphering the pedigree symbols, so I seem to have hit a dead end. Any and all suggestions as to where I should go from here would be greatly appreciated. Good Old Uncle was not a great race horse, but he was beautiful, and made a lasting impression on my husband.

Thanks for your patience and indulgence in reading this, I know this is a forum for serious horse people, but I had to take a chance in coming here.

Good Old Uncle seems to have been a sound horse, making 65 starts over 5 years. His record is 8 wins, 9 seconds and 13 thirds with a total earnings of $52,067.

Thank you, madelyn. I located a great picture of the horse, and am having it framed. I also bought the book "Wild Ride", after I looked up his breeder, JT Landry. What a story.....this is one of those gifts that is partly for me, I hope my husband reads it quickly, because I am dying to read it myself.

My husband remembers the horse fondly, and any information at all is appreciated.

BTW, the horse in your avatar is beautiful.
