Postby sarahw126 » Sat Oct 07, 2006 8:22 am

Sure Blade : USA, bay
Banket : GB, bay

This is the sire and dam of my ex-racer and I would really like to find some pictures of them but can't seem to find any. Have had a look at racing post and have looked at a few other sites but no luck. If anyone can help or know of any sites please let me know. I have only been able to find pictures of his great grand sires.. I'd really like to find his parents and grand parents to see how much a like he is to them.

If anyone can find pictures of the following too..
- Kris (GB) grand sire, chestnut
- Double Lock (GB) grand dam, bay
- Glint Of Gold (GB) grand sire, bay
- Bempton (GB) grand dam, bay

Any other sites where I can find additional info on race horse history/pedigrees would be help ful too.

Sure Blade

Postby Bettina » Sun Oct 08, 2006 5:31 am

Hallo,
Sure Blade stood for 1 or 2 seasons in Germany. He was leased by Sheik Mohammed to "help the Germanbreeding".

Sure Blade won Coventry Stakes (Group III), Champagne Stakes (Group II), St. Palace stakes(Group II), Quenn Elizabeth II Stakes (Group II), and 3. Dewhurst Stakes (Group I). His dam Double look was 3. Nassau Stakes (Group I). Sure Blade traces in the damline to Lady Juror (by Son -in-Law)the HS of Mumtaz Mahal.

Kris (by Sharpen Up) and his FS Dieses/Keen were bred by Lord Howrd de Walden. Kris stood as his breeders Plantation Stud. in England. Kris was a succesful sire in Europe and his best offspring were Oh So Sharp, Common Grounds (Sire), Unite, Shavian (sire), Fitnah etc.
Bempton is a daughter of Hardiemma, see is the dam of Shirley Heights. In the spring issue of the Geman Thoroughbredbreeder magazine "Vollblut" is an article aboutr her and her offspring.
The breeder of Bempton was Lord Halifax and during the last years , she turned out a great producer of Groupwinners, like Pentire (shuttles to Germany, he stands at the Isarland Stud in Bavaria). Pentire stands in Australia, Mr Pintips, Divine Proportions, Whipper, just to name a few. Her line is represented in Germany through Kitcat, Konigstiger (new Stallion at the Fahrhof Stud) and the filly Karavel (by Monsun). She just won the "Preis der Deutschen Einheit" (Group III, 2400 m~1 1/2 miles) at Hoppegarten (Berlin). I had the honor to witness her win. Karavel was bred by the Schlenderhan Stud.

Banket (by Glint of Gold) as 3 year old 2 wins incl Princess Royal Stakes (Group III)and 2. Park Hill Stakes (Group III)

I can check my books to see, whre are pictures of the horses you mentioned are printed. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner to copy digitally.

Hopefully i could provide you with some valuable informations.

Best regards, Bettina

Kris:

hampion full brother Kris, Diesis had great success in the Epsom Oaks. Kris sired two Oaks winners and was the broodmare sire of another, whilst Diesis was represented by three winners of that English classic. Diesis made his name primarily in Europe, despite standing his full stud career in North America.

Kris

But it was the racecourse feats of Kris which really established Sharpen Up as a sire of real note. Among his 14 successes from 16 starts the twice champion European miler won the Sussex, Queen Elizabeth II, St. James’s Palace, Lockinge, Greenham and Newmarket Challenge and the Waterford Crystal Mile, as well as the Horris Hill as a juvenile. On his other two starts he was second in the 2000 Guineas and in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
Kris’s exploits at stud need little introduction; he has produced a constant stream of top class racehorses including the Classic winners Oh So Sharp (Fillies’ Triple Crown), Unite, Flash of Steel and Rafha, Common Grounds, a successful sire himself, Balisada, Single Empire, Riviera, Fitnah, Sudden Love, Shavian, Shamshir, Divine Danse, Sure Blade, Moon Cactus and Nawajiss. He has also become a leading broodmare sire, his daughters having delivered many outstanding horses,
Sharpen Up’s fourth crop contained Sharpo, an outstanding sprinter on straight courses. He won the July Cup, the Prix de l’Abbaye and the Sprint Championship at York three times among his seven victories, but at stud his record could only be described as reasonable. He does get a good percentage of winners to runners from his daughters however

Also: Another mare who has provided sterling service in recent years is Wanton (Kris - Brazen Faced), a decent juvenille sprinter (placed third in the 1985 Flying Childers in Lord Halifax's colours). The Halifax involvement with this family dates back 35 years to when the third dam, Maurine, was purchased for Swnyford at the December Sales from Burton Agnes Stud, for whom she had already produced Nelion (later dam of Recupere, Prix du Cadran). Wanton was homebred at Garrowby (her dam was sold for 14,000gns at the 1989 December Sales, and later produced stakes winner Easy Option for her new owners) by Lord Halifax, she was sent to the 1986 December Sales where, bizzarely, she was purchased by Lady Halifax !! (who uses the name Givendale Stud, after their home on the Garrowby Estate before moving to the main house in 1981). To date Wanton has produced nine winners including the 1997 Irish 1,000 Guineas G1 winner Classic Park (by Robellino), who's half sister Rumpipumpy (by Shirley Heights) won six races including the Diana Handicap G2. Sold as a yearling, Classic Park was later the dam of Walk In The Park who was second in the 2005 Epsom Derby G1. Wanton's most recent good runner is the Tim Easterby trained (and Halifax owned) filly Birthday Suit who won her first two races in 2003 and, on her third start, was a good third in the Cherry Hinton Stakes G3. The following year her best effort was third in the Ripon Silver Bowl Fillies Stakes L.

Other recent additions to the stud (over and above retained mares) include some from Ruth, Lady Halifax such as Cape Chestnut, who is dam of Moogie (Won 2, 2nd.Venus Fillies S L, 3rd.Prix Chloe G3) who is herself already dam of Catwalk (Sweet Solera S L) who was a rare yearling filly sale, at 26,000gns. Moogie incidentally is the nickname of Halifax's daughter, Joanna. Other relatively new blood includes the Lyphard mare Lycia, the winning Mill Reef mare Horseshoe Reef who has produced 4 winners to date (including tough handicapper Warning Reef winner of 5 races including the Cumberland Plate, and placed second in the Knavesmire Handicap) and the High Top mare Hocus, from a famous Holliday family, who has produced 7 winners to date, most notably the Vincent O'Brien owned top-class handicapper American Gothic (who won the Irish Cesarewitch in 2002) and is the second dam of the decent Halifax black-type performer White Rabbit.http://www.yorkshire-racing.co.uk/garrowby.htm
