2008 Foals

Postby LB » Wed Nov 28, 2007 1:09 pm

OK, I know it's early, but is anyone else besides me starting to get excited about what they have coming in 2008? This time of year, I begin to get impatient and our first foal isn't even due until mid-February. :D

Anyone care to talk about the mares that they've bred and who they're in foal to? Pictures are always welcome!

My mare, who is due mid-Feb. also is so big, and I can't wait to see if she has another white foal! Her name is Perfectlyrequested and is bred to Chet DT. She produced Illinois' first all white foal in 2006 and slipped last year.... it's like Christmas for me... healthy foal... and what color? I CAN'T WAIT! :)

Ryeno, I know what you mean about the "knock on wood" thing. This time of year, I also get very superstitious.

Evenheaven, it's like Christmas for me too. I can't even imagine the prospect of having a white foal coming. I get excited about plain bay and chestnut.

Good luck to you both!

I only bred back one mare who is due in February, then sold her. So I had not been anticipating any 2008 babies.

However, my stallion broke out of his paddock, had himself a fu---fest, and bred the remaining 3 mares about a month ago. <sigh> So we're gonna have 3 very LATE "oops" foals next year. Well, two, because one mare is for sale. It is what it is. Had been trying to downsize but we'll cope.

Congrats everyone! It sounds like it's going to be an exciting year.

We have a Broken Vow and a Forest Wildcat due in Feb, a Lemon Drop Kid and a Grand Slam due in March, and another Broken Vow in May.

I have One Twist in foal to State City, due in March, and She'llstoptheblues in foal to Service Stripe, due in May. These were breedings recommended by Bill Lathrop (Bill from WA).

Bondama, what surprises there are in store for horse owners! Ha! Ha!

My first is due in February to cover of Sky Classic. I have two due in April, to Diamond, Bowman's Band; and one due late May to Eddington. And I'm selling Shake On It at Keeneland January, in foal to Eddington, due in April. We'll see how it turns out. I've had five planned pregnancies per year twice before, but never five live foals. So far, so good!

Hey Ryeno

Why would you ever breed to Western Trick? The stud only raced 3 times and is still a maiden with earnings of $12,060. I know you like to race horses on the cheap...I guess you like to breed horses on the cheap too.

I would bet my left nut (as you like to say) that when you try to sell the foal, you wouldn't even get the stud fee.

ya that was funny.
We are anticipating GONE FISHIN's first foals starting in mid February. I am sooooo excited I can't wait. Knock on wood we will be having 3 by GF and 1 by Impeachment. We did loose a mare to a brain tumor/abscess just recently so that is one that won't be coming along. But hopefully we will be 4 for 4 this year. I am hoping for some fillies. I have been plagued with colts these last few years. lol

We have two mares due in Feb. One the first week and the other the middle of the month. Out Storm Boot mare that is due the first week of Feb. foaled out two weeks early last year so she may foal the middle of Jan. I decided to breed her a little later this year because she gave me a little scare last year and was ready to foal out on Dec. 28(She wasn't due until the third week of Jan.) Thank goodness she waited and foaled out on Jan. 2. I didn't want to be worried about the foal coming before the first of the year again so decided to wait another couple of weeks before breeding her!
Anyway, I can't wait until the foals come. I just love waiting for the foals to arrive and watching them come into the world!
