Devil His Due

Postby erhrdt3 » Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:59 pm

My best friend and I are both happily waiting the arrival of two Devil His Due foals...mine is due to arrive mid March and hers will come mid May.

Do any of you out there have any Devil His Due's? I was so surprised to see that when he was bred to Patchen Beauty, pure white, that he (pure black) produced a pure white foal!

My mare is blood bay, a daughter of Metfield, by Seattle Slew, and we got a good nick with him, so I am sooo excited! Regardless, the foals will have a lifetime home whether they ever run or not, but we are hoping for some luck at the track since my best friend is a TB trainer.

Would love to hear any of you out there that have had some little Devils of their own :D

Hi KarennKaren!!! :D

Hi Jenny,

Thanks for posting that, I could not see it very welll with my computer.

What color is the foal?
What color is the mare... they look dark, so I'm wondering what I will get. My mare's sire is dark like his sire, Seattle Slew, but she is a blood bay. Her dam is a chestnut. I have talked to the great folks at Margaux Farm where DHD stands and they've said he has thrown some chestnuts!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a lookalike of DHD, as I love the black TB's. I love them all, but it would be nice to have one that looked like him!

Thanks again!
:D

Hi
I did not breed this guy. I purchased him as a sale project. He was bred by the Devil His Due Syndicate. Apparently he could not out run a fat man! So I got him from a trainer friend of mine. he is 100% gorgeous and has the personality of an Angel. Good luck with yours. :D

Hi Jenny,

Wow, I've never heard it put that way!! LOL

My mare is a marathoner, can run all day, one of those ones that came up from the back of the pack to get up just in time. Sooo, we are hoping the mix of the two will produce a good one.

I liked his DHD's son, Flowers in May, who won over 5 million, so I know the Devil has it in him.... :D

I have a Dantes Devil and Basic Barbie 2009 filly name Rite On Time the sire shares the same sire Devils Bag. She is beautilful and so soooo sweat She looks just like Dantes Devil has a blaze and white scocks and is a dark bay. the first day I saw I just fell in love with her :D

Congrats on the new filly...I love to look back at the colors of the horses from way back in their pedigrees. Love P.I.! Halo seems to be the one in the stallion side of 'recent' years that passed on that black color. He also sired Sunday Silence, who IMO was pure black except for his pretty white blaze.

Counting the days until the baby comes, I wonder something about the black colored foals: how soon can you tell they are going to be black? They all have the brownish color at first, or do they come out dark? This is going to be a semi-new experience for me so I'm keeping the fingers crossed for a little dark baby from Devil His Due.

Black foals are born a funny brownish grey color--kind of mouse colored. They are not born black or very dark (at least in TBs, I don't know about something like a Freisan.)

I have seen Friesian foals that are born black, but most future blacks look like these two, one an akhal-teke, born dark brown:

Or, like this QH cross, the mousy brown that LB is referring to:

Both these two became black once they shed their foal coat. Neither were homozygous black, as you can see from their dams. Maybe it makes a difference.

Jokey Club did not accept Rite on Time for our filly name, we changed it to "My Chantilly Lace" from my father's favorite song by the big bobber Chantilly lace has a perty face....hair hanging down....
