what a crabby mare.... big belly, snarky face, fast heels and no desire to foal at all.
Wow, if my earlier experiences had been with this cranky a broodmare I would have never done this. We can ONLY touch her udder if someone holds her halter AND a front hook. Back person has to move quick and dodge hooves!

I have 4/19/08 as the last breeding date... so that gives you one more day.

Hi everybody,
my maiden mare just have hers early this morning, she was due March 30, of coarse I missed it after being up almost all night i fell asleep around 3am and when i checked on her around 6am the baby was already there
everything looks good, the only problem I have is the mare doesn't seem to have the mother instinct yet and keeps moving away whenever the foal tryes to eat. Any sugestions?

Sorry to steal the thread, but I have the same thing going on with a maiden mare! Foal on the ground at 0445 (our time), had to sedate her and hold up one front hoof while hubby guided the boy in. Worked well the first time, but she keeps moving away for subsequent feeding. Hopefully this doesn't go on for too long...
