watching the foals

Postby tammysinnett » Thu Dec 28, 2006 6:20 pm

Went out to feed the mares, watched their bellies jiggle and move like the babies were doing the derby inside :D My one mare lost her foal last year ....she is very protective of her belly...you can look but you can't touch, the other mare loves the rub and affection so does the foal....we are already playing the guessing game if they are colts or fillies..I asked my husband if winter was about over and he laughed.....I can't wait for spring and to see their babies. I just love the spring and of course I just love the babies.....

I love watching the foals do their exercises in utero! My mare also aborted last year so I am excited and hopefull that all will be well for 2007. She is very kind and enjoys gentle grooming as does the foal. I can hardly wait for all the little ones :D

All 3 of my foals were born in May (4,10,14) by 2 different mares...this year I am due mid February (left her open in 2005)...I can't believe I have 6 weeks as opposed to 5 months

Me, too. Though I have two open mares, I also have one due February 1st, and that's just around the corner. The other two ladies are due in April.

How spoiled will this first baby of the season be?!

I've got quite a 'roll call' this year.

February
A Devon Lane out of Netta Gayle Bell (Slewvescent)
(closely related to stakes competitor Seliman in California)
A Claudius out of Galway Song (my champion producer)

March
A Claudius out of African Nights (Southern Halo)
A Bestbandintheland out of Miss Arkansas (Hawkster)

April
A Bestbandintheland out of Glorieta4 (Look See/Conquistador Cielo)

(Bestbandintheland is the only full brother to leading sire and broodmare sire Chimes Band, now deceased. This is Bestbandintheland's first crop of New Mexico breds.)

Wish me luck. I need it after our disaster last year.

So many pedigrees...so little time. (C)
