Argos Quest x Gavin's Sweetie, born around midnight last night.

It was a quick and easy birth, and mom and foal are doing well. Vet will be out to check on them in a few hours.

I don't have photos yet, but will try to get some posted soon.

No photos yet, and things took a slightly more cautious turn mid-day.

His igg is great, and he's nursing well and running around his stall. But his hocks and one ankle developed a little "fill" during the day. No heat or pain, but definate swelling. So now he's on anti-biotics and a boatload of drugs to protect his stomach. They'll have bloodwork back in a couple hours and vet will check in on him to see how it's going a little later this morning. We've had a couple consults on this so far, and the general feeling seems to be "he'll either get better or worse!"

Joint ill? The better or worse thing is a foregone conclusion. I had one last year that got puffy and a couple of bottles of Naxcel, I think, cleared it up. It was odd because there was not much fever, low grade, but there was definitely infection. Mine is fine now. Good luck.

Ya know.... I hate having "odd" stuff wrong. The "it'll get better or worse" plan hasn't helped much yet.

As I said, igg was good. Bloodwork they took checked out clean. No signs of infection in the bloodwork. His temp and respiration are "normal" They really think the hocks are fine today, but they think the fetlocks are more swollen they they were yesterday.

He's bright and alert, and still not showing obvious lameness. But he IS slightly over at the fetlock. They're thinking this might be a tendon contraction that he just needs to work out. Which would indicate letting him out to at least walk. On the other hand, if it IS joint ill they really want to keep him on full stall rest.

So now they're having another "conference" to discuss it amongst the practice and hospital vets.

Good luck! Horses and babies - too bad they can't tell us what ails them huh - or where it hurts or even if it does hurt. Hopefully they'll figure something out SOON for the foal's sake and your sanity. Thoughts are with you

The colt is showing improvement today, and has been given the "green light" go out for a few minutes with mom.

Since there is still some swelling the vets remain cautious, but things are certainly looking better than they did yesterday.

I think we're moving from cautious, into feeling pretty good!

He's been out for 3 shorts sessions, and might go out for a couple hours today.

The swelling is significantly reduced, and still no signs of infection.

Received my first photos this morning, and will get them posted soon.

Thanks to everyone for thier support. Babies seem to manage to find new ways to make us worry each year!!!
