Because Posting = Foaling

Postby Roguelet » Thu Mar 29, 2007 7:27 pm

This typically meets with some success, so I'm going to complain that our mare, who will be at day 357 tomorrow, needs to hurry up and spit that puppy out! She's stuck in the foaling stall until she does, and she's NONE too happy about that situation... I've told her that if she just has the foal, she can get out of there, but I don't think she's quite getting the picture.

Approximately 9:00 AM Sunday would work best for me, please...

OK, let's see if this works!

Ok Roguelet, have you got the pizza and chips on order. Posting on the board could have just the opposite effect to the one you are seeking!

I am POSITIVE it will go just like you planned. You have children right? Doesn't THAT always go as planned   I'll be rooting for you and the mare! She probably wants it out more than you do :D Keep us posted and have the camera ready!

Along the same vein.....vet was out last night @ 7:00 to vaccinate everyone. Had him look at Mercedes, who I've been saying for the last 10 days "tonight's the night!!", with all the resultant sleep deprivation. Doc says "Meh, maybe 10 more days but no more". Well, he should have said "10 more hours" because she foaled a filly at 5am.

Details in a separate thread.

I think the real secret is to calmly mutter to your mare "oh well I guess you're not going to foal for a few days, guess I'll go to bed early" [hint, hint  ]Then when your mare thinks you are gone - voila a foal is born! Good luck, hopefully she will pop that foal soon!

Well, that didn't work. She's at day 360 now. She must be waiting for the "full year."

Roquelet - if they are calling for the same weather in Indi that they are in OH she's probably waiting until the 28 degree weather hits later this week :) or she'll wait until you have Easter plans made ..... Good luck - we're still waiting with you (not that that helps you any I know - ha)

I think our mares had their wires crossed, my mare foal Yesterday (Sunday) at 9 am. She was only 12 days late this year, last year she was a month late.
My sister lunged her at a walk around her paddock the day before she foaled.

Well, at least someone listened to me, even if it wasn't my own mare! We're quickly approaching day 361, and she's actually laying down a bit tonight and is acting quite calm and "self-aware," as opposed to all the hollering and pacing and worrying about where her buddies are that she's been doing. There is a full moon tonight... who knows?

It's now officially day 362, and still no foal. The severe weather has passed, but we now have nasty winds and apparently snow (!) moving in, so I'm sure she's trying to figure out when, exactly, it would be the most horrible time for me to be at the barn. She might make a full year yet!
