My stakes winning mare in New York bore a healthy filly yesterday evening about 9pm at Pucker Ridge Farm near Warrensburg. Easy delivery and everything went okay. Time was right on, last cover May 20.
Filly is by Prime Timber out of Spanish Guitar '98. I've been promised pictures this morning. :D

S - hey congrats! Nothing like a pretty girl .... cannot wait to see pictures of her and a NY bred and foaled :) Going to keep and race her? I can't wait to see what name you come up on this one. I LOVE the dam's name - how exotic sounding is that - Spanish Guitar?

Pictures, pictures, pictures.......

I've submitted Grand Opening for her name, with second choice of Opening Number.

As promised, pictures were sent today from this morning at the farm. She is on stall duty until the weather is nicer, so the pix aren't the best. But you get the idea, and Spanish Guitar is such a sweet mommy, watching over her charge. :o

S - beautiful baby and a lovely mare (but with a name like that why did I expect anything less?)

Actually when I purchased the mare as an auction yearling in 1999 she was just a skinny, even-tempered, funny-looking kid with a narrow chest. She had this funny squiggly star that looks like the letter "S", and a rounded forehead. I liked her classy attitude and the fact all her recent ancestors were stakes horses and sound.

I didn't start appreciating her appearance until she was a fall 3yo after somebody came up to me at Woodlands Race Park and complimented me on my beautiful filly. That was in the post parade for the Kansas Oaks, which she won by five lengths. That was the final year that a $25,000 purse was enough to gain black type, and Woodlands hasn't been able to afford the increasing requirements since that time.

Here's another "mommy and baby" picture from two years ago with her Silver Ghost colt later named Ghost Hunt. He's in training now as a gelding in my stable.

A fine family. How is your Ghost Hunt behaved? I've heard a lot of bad press on his sire.

Ghost Hunt was as sweet as his mother until his testosterone kicked in. Then he became too evil, so they cut him last week. He did inherit his father's temperament after all. I thought we'd been spared that. I had no qualms about gelding him for cause, since Silver Ghost sons have been duds as studs.

Name approved 8) : The little Prime Timber filly is now officially named Opening Number. It was my second choice behind Grand Opening, but Grande Opening was already taken, and I had not noticed it. :D Great name, huh?!

Prime Timber by Sultry Song out of Wine Taster
Spanish Guitar by Birdonthewire out of Fast Fingers

Hence, Opening Number. An opening in the forest, opening a wine bottle, an opening vocalist, and an opening instrumental piece. The bird on the wire could be a female harpist or guitarist with fast fingers.

Why not have fun when naming them?!
