Three BIG ones

Postby CA Michael » Fri Apr 27, 2007 9:18 pm

http://thoroughbredinfo.com/showcase/foalpix-9.htm

A two month old colt, and 2- and 3-day old filly and colt. The blazed filly is the biggest foal ever delivered by the 55-y-o mare manager; she can see over the wither's of her 15.3 hand dam. None of the mares teared, either!

Their names:

SUMMER SERVANT

SUMMER SUNRISE

SUMMER SET (thanks to Tairaterces for that one!)

Beautiful babies, Michael! And such photographs, too! You must be very proud of Siberian Summer and his foals. Will you race them or sell them?

Hi henthorn, thanks.

It's way too early to have a plan for them yet. I have 12 other foals this year, so I will probably keep a couple of them to race and either sell or trade the rest. More than likely I'll keep the Candis' Star filly, since I sold her full sister, a very fast SW mare, to B.W. Hughes, and want a filly from this family (Forest Danger). Time will tell!

Michael - very lovely foals! You must be very proud of them and of the stallion - looks like he is doing a pretty good job of it from the looks of the babies !!! Love the names too :)

Yes, I try to name them asap. I always name foals by this stallion in alliterative form, using the sire's suffix and an "s" word loosely related to the dam's name. Tairaterces came up with SUMMER SET for the Navratilova foal. I named Navratilova after her sire (Defensive Play) and dam (Silver Service). Summer Set's full brother is selling at the Barretts sale in 2 weeks; the owners changed his name to RUSSIAN LIQUOR from the original SUMMER SWINGER. According to the Jockey Club, I can't use Summer Swinger again for 5 years, even though it's no longer in use.

As I think of "S" suffixes for the Summer names, I add them to a file for future use. Then, when I have a foal to name it's simply a matter of choosing one from the list.

The only exception I've made to this rule is on my 3yo brother to Summer Servant. His name is REAGAN REPUBLICAN. He will be racing by October. Im thinking of buying new jockey silks--Red White and Blue.
