Name suggestions please...

Postby witherbee » Tue Jun 26, 2007 8:42 am

Hi, having problems naming my filly. She's a tall, elegant bay with a kite-shaped marking on her forhead. She's by Untuttable out of Miss Ardent - here is a link to her pedigree in case you want to use names from there:
http://www.pedigreequery.com/gabby5
Her barn name is "Gabby" because she was so talkative her first week. We were going to name her "Gabagoo" in honor of the Sopranos (Gabagoo is slang for the Italian sandwich that Tony orders and we tend to call her Gabagooo), but it's just not pretty enough and is an obscure reference. I'd like a name that she has a shot of keeping as a show name when her racing days are done, or at least something that any future owners will not cringe at and say "What were they thinking?!"
Here are some pictures of her:

Her kite marking: http://s74.photobucket.com/albums/i245/ ... 0_2541.jpg
She's got a fiery personality as you can see - she is aware of how beautiful she is! http://s74.photobucket.com/albums/i245/ ... 0_2614.jpg

Here are a few that I'm considering, but nothing is really hitting me between the eyes:
Unbridled Fancy
Fancy That
High Handed
Gift of Gab
Killaloe Diamond (our farm is Diamond Oaks Farm)
Miss Ruff n Tumble
Flying High
Fappiana
Fappie's Miss
Fappy Gabby
Frappe (for you New Englanders)
Fly With Me
Unbridled Style
Uptown Girl
Noteworthy (for her Press Card reference)
Back In Style
Unrivaled
Silent Allure
Outrageous Fortune
Outrageous Miss
Shame the Devil (Shakespeare!)

Thanks - I know I'm a pain, but this is a tough one for me!

She's got a ton of Tartan blood which could be a helpful start point.

Tartan Queen
Tartan Gold

She's inbred to Gold Digger and her dam was Sequence and according to the registry Sequential is available.

In case its not painfully obvious, im horrible with names and always make a pedigree reference when naming a horse.
Don't be so humble - you are not that great.

Thanks guys. Darn - Unrivaled is taken. Evidently it can be spelled either "Unrivaled" or "Unrivalled" (I used Spell Check) and there is a 2006 "Unrivaled".

Hubby likes "Uptown Girl" best so far.

I'd love a one word, strong name but cannot find one. The Taran suggestions are good, but again nothing really grabs me. I have never had such a hard time naming a foal lol! I'm leaning towards one of the Unbridled names because she is a very opinionated filly.

Keep the ideas coming if you can! Thanks.

Going for the obvious: Untuttablemiss (14 letters)
Or a play on that: Untouchablemiss (15 letters)

I couldn't find the letter limit on the JC site, but both are available.

Hope that whatever you name her . . . she will be a winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not very good at the naming game, but I did look up the word TUTTA.....and I found this add on the internet...ummmmmm like the description

Tutta Mia is the celebration of your strength, your style, your poise and confidence. “Tutta Mia”, or “All Mine”, is a statement of personal empowerment and opportunity — the world is all yours, however you choose to show it.

You are confident, strong, elegant and sophisticated. You embrace your femininity with unpretentious grace. You live comfortably in your own skin, and you want the world to know that you are both independent and approachable at the same time.

Hmmm Untouchable Miss is nice. I like the definition of Tutta. I really wanted the name "Miss Independent" (love the Kelly Clarkson song by that name), but it's taken. Independent Miss doesn't have the same ring to it.
Thanks!

I love Tutta Mia.....I also think something with Gabriella might be fitting...if you think she's a Gabby go with your gut....to make it more classical how'bout Gabriella Mia?...or something along that line...get some friends and have a few glasses of wine and write down the names you come up with so you remember them in the morning....that's how I do it.

I like the way you think Maremc56 (the glass of wine and friends lol). We've submitted Untouchable Miss, so we'll see how that does, If they don't accept that, we'll submit a few and let them choose. I try to stay away from Italian, French etc - too easy for folks to butcher when pronouncing.

On another note, a list I am on has been debating the merits of how the JC chooses names - they have been talking about two horses named "Thong and Panties" and "Isitingood" - too bad such names are allowed IMO....

When I was reading your name list, Uptown Girl caught my eye and actually started humming the tune. I believe Billy Joel? sings it.

Uptown Girl

Postby witherbee » Wed Jul 04, 2007 1:11 pm

I liked that name too - it is a song by Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley was in the video - very 80's lol. I'm surprised it's not taken. I wanted to stick closer to my filly's pedigree for her name, and Uptown Girl just did not suit her (although she is classy and a bit of a snob lol). You are welcome to it for your next filly!

Thanks for all the replies!
